24 Hours of Le Mans 2022

00h

And we leave for the night with a new misadventure from Fassbender. The actor, who is competing in his first 24 Hours of Le Mans, made a mistake at the Dunlop chicane and got stuck in the gravel outside. We say goodbye to you for just a few hours. See you at 7:00 a.m. this Sunday for the last part of the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2022. Good (short) night everyone!

It’s Corvette No. 63’s turn to leave its garage. A hard blow, however, for the American who leaves 15 laps behind and almost no chance of victory in GTE Pro. The mechanics notably replaced the left rear suspension

On board with the Toyota N°8 which makes its way through the traffic in the Le Mans night

23h

After several minutes in the garage, the No. 93 Proton Competition Porsche returns to the track. Fassbender remains behind the wheel.

The Glickenhaus emerged from the pits in 17th place in the general classification:

23h

Olivier Pla lost third place in the general classification following this intense heat! A puncture forced the Glickenhaus to complete a lap at a very reduced speed before rushing into its garage.

23h

Collision between actor and gentleman driver Michael Fassbender and Monegasque Vincent Abril in GTE Am; both cars were able to leave.

23h

Drama in GTE Pro!! Antonio Garcia has a flat left rear wheel! Pieces of bodywork are coming off the Corvette which was at the head of the category! The Spaniard is at Mulsanne and will lose a lot of places!

22h

Problem at AF Corse! The #52 Ferrari, which was the highest ranked Prancing Horse in GTE Pro, returned to its pits after losing 3 minutes in a very slow lap. The right front wheel is flat! The race seems to be one to forget for Ferrari this year because the other car is running 2′ behind the leading Corvette.

Hard blow for Porsche! The No. 91, that of Frédéric Makowiecki, 4th in the GTE Pro, receives a penalty for passing through the pits for non-compliance with the track limits!

“It was a good start, confides Charles Milesi. I knew how to take advantage of the misfortunes of certain crews even if it is always regrettable to see their hopes dashed at the first turn of a twenty-four hour race. We have a good pace despite a slight deficit in top speed which has allowed the gaps to widen in traffic. I am satisfied with the work done so far and we must continue this good momentum despite this stop-and-go having cost us more than a minute and a half. »

“Charles had an excellent start to the race and it was a real satisfaction to see him display the same pace as the leaders while controlling the degradation of his tires well until the end of his triple stint, adds Philippe Sinault, team manager of the team. Sébastien (Ogier) then took over with a great performance on his part allowing the team to consolidate its place in the top eight despite its slight excess of optimism at the entrance to the pits. It's a good start on their part even if the race is still long. »

Indeed, the pace of the Corvettes is a little higher than that of the Porsches:

Gianmaria Bruni (Porsche 911 RSR #91): “It went pretty well for me. Our #91 car was well balanced during my double stint after the start. I feel like the Corvettes are really strong today, but that can of course change when the sun goes down and the temperatures drop. We will have to wait and see how the competition plays out in the coming hours. »

Michael Christensen (Porsche 911 RSR #92): “The car runs very well and the tires offered a lot of grip during my double stint. I continued to feel a slight understeer but we can deal with it. Unfortunately, our timing was unlucky in a slow zone and the leading Corvette gained more than a minute at the front. I expect the gaps to even out over the next 24 hours. »

Julien Andlauer (Porsche) leads the GTE Am class. The Porsche driver has left his steering wheel to his teammate Cooper McNeil:

“Compared to the competition, we have deliberately opted for a different strategy. I spent almost three hours behind the wheel in the opening phase. Our car was really strong at the start of the race. It was hotter than we had ever experienced here during our testing. It was actually a leap into the unknown, but it quickly brought us to the forefront. Now I'm going to catch my breath a little and hope my teammates have as much fun as I did in our car. »
