The retirement has just been confirmed for Suninen. The hoop was damaged following the impact against the tree. It's the end of the weekend for him. Tidemand recovers 8th place.
Here is the summary of the morning's specials:
Andreas Mikkelsen (Hyundai) narrowly saved his second position at the Swedish Rally at the end of Vargasen (SS14) after losing 5 seconds to Esapekka Lappi (Citroën) and almost 7 seconds to Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) despite a header -tail of the latter. The Belgian was closest to the benchmark set by Sébastien Ogier (Citroën) in 8'20''1 at the end of 14,21km, even if the six-time WRC champion suffered a scare when he brushed against a tree.
Elfyn Evans (M-Sport) stays on the pace by following at 2 seconds, thus preceding Sébastien Loeb (Hyundai) by a second. Ott Tânak (Toyota) followed almost 5 seconds behind while Kris Meeke (Toyota) failed 9 seconds behind the benchmark.
Teemu Suninen (M-Sport) was going to take the scratch until he spun. After hitting a tree, the Finn was able to limit his delay to 42 seconds but the rollbar of his Ford could have been hit.

Suninen limits his delay to 42 seconds but the Ford suffered heavy damage to the right rear and the rollbar seems to have suffered... The M-Sport driver in any case retains his 8th place at the end of the special.
As Suninen went to set the stage, the M-Sport driver spun and hit a tree. The Finn tries to leave but the Ford seems to have suffered. He occupied 8th position ahead of his teammate Tidemand.
Tänak sets the 6th time less than 5s from the benchmark. The Toyota driver further increases his overall lead by more than 2 seconds to place Mikkelsen more than 54 seconds behind. “We did everything we could. We take advantage of the position on the road. We didn't have any direct fights today. We keep our pace. »
Mikkelsen drops 5s on Lappi and only retains 2nd place for a 1″9 lead overall. “It’s hard to know at what pace we have to evolve. »
Evans ranks 4 tenths behind Neuville but remains less than 8 seconds behind the Hyundai driver overall. “We will still aim for the podium by continuing to attack. »
This is the 3rd time for Lappi who ranks 2″2 behind the reference and 1″4 behind Neuville. The Citroën driver maintains 3rd place, 2″6 ahead of the Belgian. “I didn't attack too much because I would make a mistake otherwise. »
Ogier improves the reference by 1″6 at the cost of a little heat on the Colin's Crest. “I actually climbed the snow wall a bit on the jump. »
Loeb is closest to Neuville with 1″4 behind his teammate. The Alsatian remains behind Meeke for half a second. “The grades are better. My tires are pretty damaged. I tried not to be too aggressive. »
Despite his error, Neuville improved the benchmark by 6″3! The Hyundai driver is still looking to overtake Lappi for 3rd place. “I was attacking very hard but I must have lost 4 or 5 seconds in my spin. I still continued to attack. »
Neuville spun but miraculously avoided going off the road. The loss of time was limited for the Belgian who remains provisionally the fastest.
Meeke ranks 1″1 behind Tidemand. The Toyota driver is threatened by Loeb in the fight for 6th position. “It was not a good afternoon. It is my responsibility that we do not have a good position on the road. »
Tidemand improves the reference by 19″5. The Swede from M-Sport occupies 9th place. “It was a good SS even though we were still cleaning up. There were crowds at the side of the track, it's incredible. »
