Rally Sweden 2020
From 10:08 a.m., join the second special stage of the day, Finnskogen (20,68 km).
Ole Christian Veiby set the best time in WRC2, with a comfortable margin of 6″7 over Mads Ostberg!
Toyota Yaris are at home in Sweden. On one of the rare icy courses of the 2020 edition, Elfyn Evans set the best time in Hof-Finnskog, as in 2019. His teammates Kalle Rovanperä and Sébastien Ogier follow him less than three seconds behind.
However, the performance of this SS1 is to the credit of Ott Tänak (Hyundai). The outgoing world champion climbs to second place despite a disadvantageous starting position. The winner of the Monte-Carlo Rally Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) remained cautious (5th at 4″4), while the Ford Fiestas are already behind.
As for the returnees, Jari-Matti Latvala (Toyota) and Craig Breen (Hyundai) were pushed to the bottom of the top 10, but ahead of Takamoto Katsuta (Toyota).
Nikolay Gryazin (Hyundai) interferes between Mads Ostberg and Adrien Fourmaux. The Russian finished 2″5 behind the Norwegian.
Fourmaux: “Honestly I had good feelings. I'll have to attack more. »
The Frenchman Adrien Fourmaux and the Belgian Renaud Jamoul (Ford) lost 14″ to Mads Ostberg.
Mads Ostberg (Citroën) is the first WRC2 competitor to reach the finish: “It's difficult to judge the state of the road. What you see does not correspond to the driving sensations. »
For his first rally with Hyundai in 2020, replacing Sébastien Loeb, Craig Breen hardly impresses. The Irishman finished just ahead of Jari-Matti Latvala, 9″4 behind.
Latvala: “It looks like the tires have failed. I feel like I can't make the car run the way I want. »
The four-time winner of the Rally Sweden, Jari-Matti Latvala, crossed the finish line with a significant delay of 11″9 over Elfyn Evans.
Tänak: “The stage is pretty OK. Sometimes I was a little cautious but that's okay. »
Ott Tänak only loses 1″1 to Elfyn Evans! The No. 1 is second in the general ranking.
The Japanese finished 13″1 behind Elfyn Evans on identical equipment!
Takamoto Katsuta and Daniel Barritt (Toyota) set off to lose around ten seconds on SS1.
Great performance from Ott Tänak and Martin Järveoja (Hyundai). As the pitch begins to deteriorate, the Estonians are close behind Elfyn Evans at the second intermediate point!
Teemu Suninen and Jarmo Lehtinen (Ford) already lose more than 8″ on Elfyn Evans.
Rovanperä: “I made several stupid little mistakes which are linked to the fact that I don't yet fully know the car. I'm already sliding quite a bit with my tires. »
Kalle Rovanperä finished with the second best provisional time, 2″ behind her teammate Elfyn Evans.
Lappi: “I did my best. I have to be content with this time. »
The leaders of Ford M-Sport, Esapekka Lappi and Janne Ferm, do not seem to be on the pace of the Toyotas. The Finns already concede 6″3 on Elfyn Evans.
