Before SS5, Kalle Rovanperä (Skoda) held the lead in WRC 2 Pro with almost 7 seconds ahead of Mads Ostberg (Citroën), while Gus Greensmith (Ford) completed the leading trio. Pierre-Louis Loubet remained in control of WRC 2 with a 23-second lead over Petter Solberg (Volkswagen) followed by Adrien Fourmaux (Ford). Oliver Solberg (Volkswagen) retired after going off the road following damage to the steering.
Jari-Matti Latvala (Toyota) made a great attack in the 10,26km of Aberhirnant, the 5th special of Wales Rally GB, signing the scratch in a tie with Elfyn Evans (M-Sport). Esapekka Lappi (Citroën) was the closest with a second delay. Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) followed almost 4 seconds behind, preceding Kris Meeke (Toyota) and Andreas Mikkelsen (Hyundai). Teemu Suninen (M-Sport) and Ott Tänak (Toyota) failed by more than 6 seconds, as did Sébastien Ogier (Citroën).
The stage was subsequently stopped due to the dangerous behavior of spectators refusing to listen to the marshals' instructions. Craig Breen (Hyundai) and Pontus Tidemand (M-Sport) will be allocated fixed times.
Kris Meeke now has a lead of 6 seconds over Thierry Neuville who climbed to 2nd place with 2 tenths ahead of Jari-Matti Latvala. Ott Tänak and Sébastien Ogier now complete the Top 5, awaiting the time of Craig Breen who was 5th. Esapekka Lappi follows in 6th place ahead of Andreas Mikkelsen and the Fords of Teemu Suninen and Elfyn Evans.
The special was ultimately canceled. All competitors must join mid-stage assistance.

Latvala hits hard with a 3″7 lead over Neuville. The Toyota driver suddenly gained 3 places, placing himself 2 tenths behind Neuville and ahead of his teammate Tänak by 3 tenths in the general classification.
Meeke finished one second behind Neuville and thus retained a lead of 6s over the Belgian in the general classification.
Mikkelsen ranks 1″1 behind his teammate Neuville and is less than 12 seconds behind Ogier.
Great attack from Neuville who takes 2″7 from Tänak and 3s from Ogier. The Hyundai driver regains 2 places against his opponents with half a second ahead of the Estonian.
Ogier ranks 3 tenths behind Tänak while he was ahead in the first two splits. The Citroën driver finds himself 2″3 behind the Estonian.
Tänak finished with a time of 5'43″8 at the end of a difficult course where he and Ogier almost made a mistake.
