After his big scare in SS3 of the German Rally, Thierry Neuville regained his colors by setting the best time in the concluding SS5 of the first loop. The Belgian is ahead of Sébastien Ogier (Ford) by three tenths in 5'15"9 and Ott Tänak (Ford) by 2"8.

Andreas Mikkelsen (Citroën) concedes 3″5 on Neuville and seven tenths on Tänak, and thus retains control of the race with a margin of 4″1 on Tänak and 5″6 on Ogier. Behind this trio, Elfyn Evans places his Ford Fiesta in fourth position at 14″8 ahead of Neuville at 17″5. The Toyota Yaris of Lappi and Hänninen follow in the standings ahead of the Citroën C3 of Craig Breen, tied with Hänninen at 31″5 behind the leader. Hayden Paddon (Hyundai) is in ninth place at 1'18″6.

Jari-Matti Latvala (Toyota), on the other hand, lost big in this last sector of the first loop this Friday, since, victim of engine problems on his Yaris, the Finn lost more than 1'26" on Neuville. Fifth overall before this SS5, the former Volkswagen driver fell to 10th in the event standings.

In WRC-2, Jan Kopecky (Skoda Fabia R5) signs the provisional scratch while awaiting the passage of Yoann Bonato (Citroën DS3 R5). The Czech still precedes Pontus Tidemand (Skoda Fabia R5) in the provisional general classification of the category.

Kris Meeke can only achieve the seventh provisional time in 5'21″8 with his Citroën C3. His teammate Andreas Mikkelsen did better by setting the fourth time, 3″5 behind Neuville. The Norwegian only concedes seven tenths on Tänak and retains his first place overall ahead of the Estonian and Ogier, who remains third, 1″5 behind Tänak.

Toyota Gazoo Racing confirms engine problems on Latvala's Yaris.

It was an engine problem that slowed down the former Volkswagen driver. The Yaris' block seemed to have no power from the start. Latvala also went off the road slightly in the SS.
