Tour of Corsica 2019
The second stage of the Tour de Corse should start this Saturday at 7:38 a.m.
Éric Camilli (Volkswagen) remains in control of WRC 2, occupying 9th place in the general classification, 20 seconds ahead of Yoann Bonato (Citroën). Nikolay Gryazin (Skoda) remains on the provisional podium in the category with a handful of seconds ahead of Nicolas Ciamin (Volkswagen).
The commissioners did not take long to make their decision. Evans was credited with the same time as Tänak in SS6 and thus regained the lead, still 4” ahead of the Toyota driver.
Millener (M-Sport): “We hope that the times will be adjusted with a time similar to that of Tänak. Victory is at stake here. It’s unfair to end such a beautiful day like this. »
Elfyn Evans (M-Sport) lost time on SS6 of the Tour de Corse when he found himself stuck behind Kris Meeke (Toyota) who was moving slowly after damaging his suspension on the previous route. The Welshman completed the Alta-Rocca special a dozen seconds behind the scratch of Thierry Neuville (Hyundai), author of a time of 10'02''3 at the end of the 17,37km.
The Belgian took a good second from Ott Tänak, while the French Sébastien Loeb (Hyundai) and Sébastien Ogier (Citroën) were the closest. Teemu Suninen (M-Sport) follows 4 seconds ahead of Jari-Matti Latvala (Toyota), Dani Sordo (Hyundai) and Esapekka Lappi (Citroën).
Ott Tänak took advantage of Elfyn Evans' misfortunes to regain the lead of the Tour de Corse with a little more than 5 seconds ahead of Thierry Neuville and the Welshman, but the M-Sport driver will perhaps see his time adjusted depending on the opinion of the commissioners. Dani Sordo and Teemu Suninen still complete the Top 5 ahead of Sébastien Ogier and Esapekka Lappi.
Suninen finished 4s behind Neuville. The M-Sport driver is closing in on 4th place occupied by Sordo. “It was a good day for us. We will work on assistance. »
Sordo ranks almost 6s from Neuville. The Spaniard remains in 4th position. “It’s quite complicated. I feel good behind the wheel but the speed is not there. We will see tomorrow. »
Latvala sets the 5th time, 4 seconds behind Neuville. The Finn is around ten seconds ahead of his teammate Meeke in the overall standings despite his puncture in the afternoon. The Toyota driver is very disappointed with his performance.
Loeb sets the 3rd time, 2″6 behind Neuville’s provisional scratch. The Alsatian gains a place against Meeke. “It’s getting better and better, but we lost a lot this morning. We refine the settings. »
Lappi ranks 8s behind Neuville and is around ten seconds behind his teammate Ogier overall. “I tried to do my best, but the rhythm is not there. It's frustrating, but that's how it is. »
Meeke is more than 2min behind. “I thought it would pass with the gap between starts. I feel sorry for him. »
Evans failed a dozen seconds behind Neuville and around ten seconds behind Tänak who regained the lead of the race while the Welshman fell to 3rd place just behind Neuville.
Meeke immediately comes to apologize. The M-Sport driver hopes his time will be adjusted.
Evans can finally overtake Meeke, but what a waste of time for the Welshman.
Evans finds himself behind Meeke... who blocks him!
Meeke continues to progress at a slow pace in the special after damaging his suspension on the previous route.
Neuville takes back a little more than a second from Tänak and comes back to 5 seconds behind the Estonian. “I was hesitant in some corners. We attack hard. »
Ogier ranks 2″3 behind Tänak. The Citroën driver is in 6th place. “We need to find a way to get this car running. It was a difficult day. »
Tänak finished with a time of 10’03”6, a few tenths better than his first run. “We remained cautious because we had a few shock absorber issues this afternoon, but overall it was okay. We were consistent. »
Tänak took the start of SS6 where he hopes to regain ground against Evans who held his own for a good part of the day.
Tänak is preparing to set off on the last time trial of the day. He completed the 17,94km of Alta-Rocca in 10’05”2 this morning, setting the scratch for the special.
