Rally Italy-Sardinia 2018
Andreas Mikkelsen dismounted on SS7 of the Sardinia Rally even though Team Principal Michel Nandan had indicated after the previous special that the i20 WRC did not appear to have any mechanical problems. The Scandinavian occupied second place in the ranking.
Teemu Suninen (M-Sport) signed his first scratch in this event by completing the 14,37km from Castelsardo in 10'34''8, 1''9 ahead of his teammate. Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) followed just over four seconds behind. Toyota drivers Jari-Matti Latvala and Esapekka Lappi finished more than eight seconds behind, ahead of Mads Ostberg (Citroën) and Elfyn Evans (M-Sport). Craig Breen (Citroën) failed by almost 15 seconds by missing a turn. Hayden Paddon (Hyundai) finished more than 15 seconds behind.
Sébastien Ogier now has almost 11 seconds ahead of Thierry Neuville. The Belgian is followed four seconds behind by Ott Tänak. Teemu Suninen gained three places and found himself fourth ahead of his compatriots Jari-Matti Latvala and Esapekka Lappi. Mads Ostberg climbs to seventh place ahead of Hayden Paddon and Craig Breen.
Paddon is the slowest, 15″6 behind Suninen. The New Zealander finds himself behind Ostberg, 3″2 behind.
Ostberg ranks 7th in the ES, 11″2 behind Suninen. The Citroën driver is now 9s behind Lappi overall.
Great performance from Suninen who took the provisional scratch 1″9 ahead of his teammate Ogier. The Finn relegates his compatriot Latvala to almost 4s overall.
With his mistake, Breen is the slowest at the finish, 13 seconds behind the provisional scratch. The Citroën driver is 35 seconds behind Lappi in the general standings.
While closest to Ogier on the stage, Breen missed a turn and had to reverse. His time will be impacted.
Latvala signs the 3rd time, 6″1 behind Ogier and takes a small second from his teammate Lappi who is now 1″6 behind his compatriot overall.
The Norwegian stopped suddenly on a bend. His stop caused a fire to start on a bale of straw.
Lappi is the slowest with 7s behind Ogier. The Toyota driver is 22s behind his teammate Tänak in the general standings.
Mikkelsen is arrested in the special! The Hyundai driver was in 2nd place ahead of Neuville and Tänak.
Täbak is 6″4 from the provisional scratch, 4s behind Neuville. The Estonian finds himself the same behind the Belgian overall.
Ogier improves Neuville's time by 2″4 and relegates the Hyundai driver to almost 11s overall.
Neuville set a first time of 10'39″1, 4 seconds better than Mikkelsen's scratch this morning.
The images show a dry road with clouds of dust rising as the WRCs pass. The ranking could well still evolve at the end of this SS in conditions opposite to the previous special.
Neuville starts the special stage delayed by 4 minutes.
The start of SS7 is delayed by a few minutes.
Neuville is ready to set off on the second passage of Castelsardo, 14,37km long. The weather seems nicer at the start of this route. Mikkelsen was the fastest this morning with a time of 10'43″3.
