Sardinia Rally 2019
The first stage of the Sardinia Rally will end at 17:57 p.m. with the 10,99km Monte Baranta. Lappi was the fastest in the first pass in 8'17"4.
Kopecky took back almost 2s from Rovanperä. The Czech is back to just over 6s from the lead in WRC 2 Pro.
Dani Sordo (Hyundai) set the pace at the Sardinia Rally by completing the 14,14km of Tergu-Osilo in 8'53''2. Esapekka Lappi (Citroën) and Jari-Matti Latvala, whose Yaris WRC suffered a rollover, were the closest with 4 seconds behind. Ott Tänak (Toyota) follows closely at 4”7 ahead of Andreas Mikkelsen (Hyundai), Teemu Suninen (M-Sport), Kris Meeke (Toyota) and Elfyn Evans (M-Sport).
Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) lost almost half a minute by making mistakes twice. If his mount is damaged following his exit from the road in SS6, it is the condition of the tires which poses a problem for the Belgian. The latter is the only one with Ott Tänak and Elfyn Evans to have traveled the previous special finally canceled.
Dani Sordo is now alone in the lead of the Sardinia Rally with a lead of 4'7 over Ott Tänak. Teemu Suninen retains 3rd place with more than 7 seconds ahead of his teammate Elfyn Evans. Andreas Mikkelsen remains 5th with more than 3 seconds ahead of Kris Meeke. Thierry Neuville is still in 7th place with 16 seconds ahead of Esapekka Lappi.
Sordo seizes the provisional scratch in style. The Hyundai driver leads Lappi by more than 4 seconds and relegates Tänak to 4″7 to take sole control of the Sardinia Rally. “Tänak did one more stage, it’s not very fair. I have to admit it,” says the Spaniard who has tires in better condition.
Lappi takes the provisional scratch for a tenth ahead of Latvala. “I know why it works now. You'll have to ask the team why because I won't say anything. »
Mikkelsen sets the 3rd time, 1″7 behind the provisional reference. The Hyundai driver is in 5th place with a little more than 3 seconds ahead of Meeke. “I did a great SS. We're trying to keep Kris (Meeke) behind for the road position tomorrow. »
Latvala's Toyota runs like clockwork despite its rollover. The Finn takes the provisional scratch with half a second ahead of his teammate Tänak, even though he is more than 8 minutes behind the lead in the race! “The car is fantastic. It's such a shame to have made such a stupid mistake (the one in ES6). In my career, I had never done that before. »

Suninen sets the 2nd time, giving Tänak 2″5. The M-Sport driver is now 3″3 behind the Estonian in the general classification. “I remained cautious in trying to follow the trajectories. I could have done better. »
Meeke is closest to Tänak with 3 seconds behind. The Northern Irishman is around ten seconds behind Evans in the general classification. “This ES seems simpler, but it's far from it. »
Evans fails around ten seconds from the benchmark and is now 10″7 behind Tänak in the general classification.
Evans just went off the road and ended up hitting an embankment and a parked car after shooting straight on. The M-Sport driver who occupies 4th place can return to the road.
Neuville finished 24s behind Tänak. The Belgian is now 44s from the lead of the race. “Our tires are dead. We started with slicks in the special and there is still a time to go. »

Neuville loses elements on the front of his Hyundai. The i20 WRC clearly suffered from its first off the road in SS6.
Neuville missed a turn and narrowly missed hitting a marshal! No harm, however, and the Belgian can leave. But what a difficult afternoon for the Hyundai driver!
Tänak reached the finish with a time of 8'57″9. " It's like that. »
Neuville is more than 4s behind Tänak at the first intermediate.
Neuville got a big scare when he lost the rear of his Hyundai. The Belgian barely recovers his mount after a significant slip.
A few drops of rain fall in the special. Tänak activates his windshield wiper. Nothing to influence the times, however.
