Monte-Carlo Rally 2018
To wait until tomorrow morning, here is the summary of the first 5 SS of the Monte-Carlo Rally:
The third day will begin with the 29,16km from Agnières to Devouly-Corps where snow seems to have fallen on the route. Sébastien Ogier will start there from 8:08 a.m.
Jan Kopecky (Skoda) is now a solid leader of WRC 2 following the retirement of Éric Camilli (Ford) who went off the track on SS6. It is now Guillaume de Mevius (Peugeot) who is closest to the Czech with more than eight minutes behind. Stéphane Sarrazin (Skoda) was also at the forefront of RC2 before abandoning in the penultimate special of the day.

Ott Tänak (Toyota) again gained time from Sébastien Ogier in the eighth special stage of the Monte-Carlo Rally. The Estonian set the third time, eight seconds behind Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) who completed the 15,18km in 8'36''2 with a 7''4 lead over Jari-Matti Latvala (Toyota). The Finn beat his teammate and compatriot Esapekka Lappi by five seconds.
Kris Meeke (Citroën) followed at around ten seconds, ahead of Elfyn Evans (M-Sport) and Dani Sordo (Hyundai) by half a second. Sébastien Ogier (M-Sport) was further behind on this course and lost 4”4 to Ott Tänak. Only Craig Breen (Citroën) and Bryan Bouffier (M-Sport) were slower.
Sébastien Ogier only has a 14”9 lead over Ott Tänak on the evening of the second stage. Dani Sordo is still on the provisional podium with around ten seconds ahead of the Yaris WRC of Esapekka Lappi and Jari-Matti Latvala separated by two tenths. Kris Meeke is still in sixth position ahead of Bryan Bouffier, Elfyn Evans, Thierry Neuville and Craig Breen.
Bouffier is still the furthest behind with 20″2 behind Neuville. The M-Sport privateer remains 7th, maintaining a 27s lead over Evans. “We can hope to improve tomorrow but it wasn't too bad because I didn't make any mistakes. »
Lappi sets the 7th provisional time 12″4 behind the benchmark, 1”1 behind Sordo. “Maybe I’m in.” I'm still too far behind to fight for victory but I'm satisfied with my performance. » The Toyota driver remains 4th, 10"2 behind Sordo but sees his teammate Latvala come back to just 2 tenths.
Breen is the slowest at the finish, 15 seconds behind Neuville. The Citroën driver is more than a minute behind the 9th place occupied by the Belgian.
Meeke finishes with the 4th provisional time, 10″6 behind Neuville. The Citroën driver remains isolated in 6th place.
This is the 5th provisional time for Sordo who finishes 4s behind Tänak. The Hyundai driver is fighting against the Toyotas of Lappi and Latvala to maintain his 3rd place. “It was difficult before on the black asphalt patches. There is a lot more grip in this special. » The second Finn is 10”4 behind the i20 WRC.
Evans sets the 4th provisional time, 11 seconds behind Neuville. The Hyundai driver came back 2″4 from 8th place occupied by the Welshman.
Latvala sets the 2nd provisional time, 7″4 behind Neuville, ahead of his teammate Tänak by 7 tenths. The Finn remains in the fight with his teammate and compatriot Lappi for 4th place.
Tänak fails 8″1 behind Neuville but still takes 4″4 from Ogier. The Toyota driver is less than 15 seconds behind the Frenchman.
Neuville: “The car worked very well in this special, I really enjoyed it. We are far away but everything is still possible. A top 5 would be superb now but a 6th place would also be a great result. »
Neuville arrives 12″5 ahead of Ogier, posting a time of 8’36″2. The Hyundai driver is battling with Evans for 8th place.
Ogiert set a first time of 8'48"7, 6"1 more than his scratch for the morning. “It was a difficult day, but the stage is over and I’m still in the lead. I would certainly have a lead of around 40s without this spin. »
Tänak leads Ogier by 3s at the 6th km. The Toyota driver is 16s behind the leader in the general classification.
The rain is no longer too disturbing for the drivers, only a few drops fall on the special, but the road remains mostly wet.
Ogier set off on the last special of the day.
The drivers are preparing to compete in SS8 Vaumeilh – Claret 2 (15,18 km).
Ogier will start the special from 16:44 p.m. Evans took the scratch there this morning in 8’42″6.
