Bahrain 2022 pre-season testing
The morning session is over! Charles Leclerc places his Ferrari at the top of the standings but it is Sergio Pérez who recorded the most laps (69) in Bahrain with his Red Bull.
Lando Norris, victim of a brake problem, recorded only 21 laps in Sakhir.
The afternoon session will begin at 13 p.m. French time.
The first neutralization occurs 10 minutes from the end of the session. This Virtual Safety Car (VSC) makes it possible to check that the system is working, that the drivers are slowing down sufficiently. No incidents occurred on the circuit.
McLaren has announced that it is trying to resolve a problem with its car. Mechanics look more specifically at the car's brakes.
Alexander Albon gets closer to six tenths of Charles Leclerc half an hour from the end of this session:
Sebastian Vettel moves up to 2nd place, 1″635 behind Charles Leclerc!
Guanyu Zhou is back on track with medium tires. For his part, Sebastian Vettel seems to be the most offensive even if he does not move up the hierarchy. The Aston Martin shakes a lot in turns.
There is only one hour left in this morning session:
Lewis Hamilton was the victim of “pumping” on the straight. The Mercedes experiences a rebound effect due to the lowering of the body and the flow of air passing under the flat bottom.
Guanyu Zhou remains in the Alfa Romeo box after stopping at the entrance to the pit lane for an as yet unknown reason.
There are 1h30 left in this morning session! Here is the state of the forces present:
Interviewed by F1 TV, Ross Brawn, Motorsports boss at F1, admitted: “We did not anticipate the Mercedes concept. This is a very extreme interpretation of the regulations and there will be much debate in the days to come. »
Yes, another illustration of the Mercedes W13, but it must be said that the Silver Arrow revolutionizes the design of pontoons! Look at the comparison with the Barcelona tests:

Sebastian Vettel locked the wheels while braking before the final corner. The Aston Martin shot its front tires and returned to the pits.
As a reminder, the teams only took one car to these pre-season tests. Hence the fact that only 10 drivers can take to the track per session and not the full grid of 20 competitors.
Charles Leclerc continues the laps with medium tires. The Ferrari still leads the standings with a time of 1'34″531, now ahead of Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes. Sergio Pérez is 3rd with his Red Bull.
Haas test driver Pietro Fittipaldi will take the wheel during the afternoon session:
A reminder that, due to freight delays out of our control, we will not be running in the first session of today's Bahrain Test.
Good progress is being made on the car and we're still on track to have @PiFitti on track for the second session, at 3pm.# HaasF1 pic.twitter.com/GQyWUjx2xT

A piece of adhesive tape came off on Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes. The team tried to block air vents with the D system…
The Williams also has very aggressive sidepods:
After an hour of testing, Charles Leclerc has the best time in 1'35″953. Lewis Hamilton comes out of the pits on hard tires. The pumping problem seen during the first laps seems to have disappeared.
Transferred to Williams for 2022, Alexander Albon complained of a “hot” seat and returned to the pits.
