Just like in GTE Pro, Ferrari took the best in GTE Am, the No. 458 Clearwater Racing 61 Italia of Rob Bell setting the best time in 3'57"543. The sister cars No. 62 of Scuderia Corsa and No. 83 AF Corse, where we find the French Emmanuel Collard and François Perrodo, associated with Rui Aguas, follow in the ranking. The No. 7 Corvette C50.R from Larbre Compétition took 7th place in the category.
In GTE Pro, Ferrari dominated the first session with the #488 AF Corse 51 driven by the trio Bruni – Pier Guidi – Calado was the fastest with a best time clocked in 3'53″833 by Gianmaria Burni. The Risi Competizione sister car of Vilander – Fisichella – Malucelli follows in the standings in 3'54″180 ahead of three of the four Ford GTs from Chip Ganassi Racing.
Among the privateers, it was the Rebellion R-One n°12 of Prost-Heidfeld-Piquet Jr which led the debates by clocking in six seconds behind the test benchmark.
If theAlpine No. 36 was at the head of the LMP2 for a long time thanks to Nicolas Lapierre, it was Richard Bradley who set the best time on the KCMG Oreca 05 with which he completed a lap of the Sarthe circuit in 3'39''133 six tenths ahead of the first A460. The PB Compétition Ligier completes the top three in the category with Paul-Loup Chatin who placed the LMP2 just over a second behind the Hong Kong team's car.
The No. 6 of Sarrazin-Conway-Kobayashi is just over a second behind the benchmark. The prototype was damaged in the final moments by contact with the rail of Stéphane Sarrazin at the exit of the Indianapolis bend. The No. 5 of Davidson-Buemi-Nakajima follows two seconds behind.
Porsche led the charge during free practice for the 84th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans by setting the best times. Neel Jani set the benchmark at the end of the session (shortened following Inès Taittinger's exit from the track in the #28 Pegasus Racing Morgan) with a lap completed in 3'22''011 in the #919 2 Hybrid which is half a second ahead of Brendon Hartley's #1.
The first Audi, the No. 18 R8, is less than a second behind the Stuttgart cars. His test session was nevertheless disrupted by a mechanical problem forcing Lucas di Grassi to return to the garage. The LMP1 at the Rings precedes the two Toyota TS050 Hybrids.
Sarrazin hit the rail leaving Indianapolis. The reason for this loss of control remains unknown.
The session will not end. Porsche maintains the best time with the time of Neel Jani signed in the No. 2 Porsche.
Sarrazin's No. 6 Toyota comes back to idle with damage to the front right. The front bumper was torn off.
Red flag! Taittinger went off the track at the Karting corner in the No. 28 Pesagus Racing Morgan. The LMP2 ended up in the tire wall.
Jani took the best time in 3'22"011 in the #2 Porsche. the sister car clocks in at half a second.
Bradley takes the best time in LMP2 at the wheel of the KCMG Oreca 05 with a time of 3'39"133 which allows him to relegate theAlpine No. 36 at half a second.
Jani is ahead in the first two sectors over the #2 Porsche which is 4 tenths off the benchmark.
Billy Johnson returns at a reduced pace with the No. 66 Ford GT, damaged to the left mirror.
The No. 8 Audi is still in its garage following the problem encountered by Di Grassi at the first Mulsanne chicane.
End of double yellow flag period at zone 25 (Indianapolis).
