If the timesheet places Renault at the forefront, the atmosphere is nevertheless gloomy at Renault. The RS19 only covered 58 laps this Thursday on the Catalunya circuit, even if Nico Hülkenberg set the best time of the first week of testing with a lap completed in 1'17''393 with the fastest tires. more tender. A time which remains more than a second from the pole of Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) signed last year on the Catalan track.

Alexander Albon (Toro Rosso) finished in 2nd place having been one of the most productive of the day. Daniel Ricciardo (Renault) completes the top three for the day ahead of Mercedes drivers Valtteri Bottas and Lewis Hamilton. Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) ranked 6th, also showing himself to be very diligent on the track, as was Lando Norris (McLaren).

Antonio Giovinazzi (Alfa Romeo) was the most present with 154 laps covered until his C38 stopped in quick succession on the track, causing two consecutive interruptions in the final minutes of the session.

Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen finished in the same time, completing a similar number of laps. The Haas drivers precede the Red Bull of Pierre Gasly and the Racing Point of Lance Stroll.

Williams was finally able to accumulate the data on the FW42 even though George Russell and Robert Kubica only covered 65 laps while being the slowest.

Kubica: “We were finally able to ride even if the program remained limited. We are late, but it was important to do these few laps to be better prepared next week. My fans unfortunately weren't able to see us much. The beginning is not ideal, but we must move forward and focus on the future. I don't know what to expect, but I know how to react and I hope to use my experience. We have to remain realistic in knowing that we will not go to Australia expecting to fight for the best positions. »

Giovinazzi had just left but the Alfa Romeo driver was stopped on track again. The red flag is displayed but the session will certainly end with this interruption.

There are still 3 drivers on track with Albon (Toro Rosso), Giovinazzi (Alfa Romeo) and Gasly (Red Bull). The Frenchman completed 135 laps, more than double the number of Renault drivers.

If Renault leads the times, the day was not very productive for the Losange who only covered 58 laps with the RS19.

17h

Bottas is the first to return to the track. The Mercedes driver is wearing the softest tires.
