The Red Bulls were only able to take the 4th row with Max Verstappen 7th ahead of Daniel Ricciardo. Kevin Magnussen (Haas) set the last time of Q3, Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) quickly returning to the pits after spinning at Blanchimont while he was condemned to the back of the grid.

The Toro Rosso are ahead of the Saubers of Charles Leclerc and Marcus Ericsson, while Nico Hülkenberg (Renault) did not set a time due to his penalty.

Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) set the new lap record with a time of 1'41''501, a few hundredths ahead of his teammate Kimi Räikkönen and Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes). However, Q3 should be contested on a wet track with a downpour arriving on the track.
