Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) takes his ninth pole of the season at the Malaysian GP in Sepang with a lap record set at 1'30''076. Kimi Räikkönen (Ferrari) failed by just 45 thousandths and will complete the first row. The Red Bulls of Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo are on the second row ahead of Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes).
Esteban Ocon (Force India) completes the third row while his teammate Sergio Pérez fails behind Stoffel Vandoorne (McLaren) and Nico Hülkenberg (Renault). Fernando Alonso (McLaren) completes the top ten.
Räikkönen fails 45 thousandths behind Hamilton. Mercedes driver takes pole at Malaysian GP!

Hamilton complains of power losses. His team replied that they saw nothing in the telemetry data.

Hamilton took provisional pole and the new lap record in 1'30″076. Räikkönen follows 2 tenths ahead of Ricciardo and Bottas. Pérez climbs to 5th place ahead of Ocon and the McLarens of Vandoorne and Alonso. Hülkenberg remains in the garage.
The drivers are in their first flying lap. Hamilton set off at a good pace.

Pierre Gasly (Toro Rosso) was unable to go further than Q2 at the Malaysian GP. The Toro Rosso driver set the last time of the session more than a tenth behind his teammate Carlos Sainz Jr. The Williams are also eliminated, Felipe Massa having failed two hundredths behind Fernando Alonso (McLaren) while Lance Stroll is in the lead. 13th place behind Jolyon Palmer (Renault).
Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) set the new lap record with a time of 1'30''803, a tenth ahead of Kimi Räikkönen and Max Verstappen (Red Bull). Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) followed in fourth place.
Hamilton improves his lap but remains 4th behind Räikkönen and Verstappen.

Räikkönen is the only driver with Verstappen to stay in the garage. They occupy the first two places in the ranking.
All the drivers returned to the pits. Gasly is 14th between Sainz Jr and Stroll. Bottas is the first to return to the track.
