Sebastian Vettel takes pole position for the 2017 Hungarian Grand Prix. The German driver dominated Q3 of the qualifying session in 1'16"276 and will start alongside his teammate Kimi Räikkönen, second in 1'16"444 .

The Mercedes of Bottas and Hamilton will start on the second row, the Briton having been unable to beat his Finnish teammate and after experiencing a vibration on his last attempt. The third row will be made up of the Red Bull RB13s of Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo, which precede the Renault RS 17 of Nico Hülkenberg, the McLarens of Alonso and Vandoorne. Carlos Sainz (Toro Rosso) sets the 10th fastest time.

Ricciardo (Red Bull) and Räikkönen (Ferrari) follow the two leaders by two tenths, and only separated by two thousandths. Hamilton returned to the pits and aborted his attempt after an error in the first sector at turn 4.

Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) waited until the last part of Q2 to set the best time on super-soft tires in 1'16"693 and is ahead of Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari), previous holder of the reference time in 1'16"802. Max Verstappen (Red Bull) completes the top three in 1'17"028 and is ahead of Räikkönen (Ferrari), Bottas (Mercedes), Hülkenberg (Renault), Ricciardo (Red Bull), the two McLarens of Alonso and Vandoorne and Carlos Sainz (Toro Rosso).

Jolyon Palmer (Renault) fails in 11th position and remains the first eliminated from this Q2. The Briton precedes Esteban Ocon (Force India), Daniil Kvyat (Toro Rosso), Sergio Pérez (Force India) and Romain Grosjean (Haas).

Grosjean (Haas) improves but fails to climb into the top 10. Ocon (Force India) will not advance to the final part of the qualifying session either.
