Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) therefore takes pole position for this United States Grand Prix ahead of his teammate Nico Rosberg. The two Red Bulls of Ricciardo and Verstappen and the two Ferraris of Räikkönen and Vettel follow in that order on the grid.
Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull) sets the 3rd provisional time ahead of Max Verstappen. Räikkönen finally got the better of his Ferrari teammate Sebastian Vettel. Followed by Hülkenberg (Force India), Bottas (Williams), Massa (Williams) and Sainz (Toro Rosso).
1'35"215 for Rosberg, but Hamilton went below the 1'35" mark by signing a 1'34"999.
Hamilton continues his momentum in the second partial.
Rosberg is behind at the end of the first partial against Lewis Hamilton who is improving for his part.
Vettel and Räikkönen (Ferrari) waited to take to the track and finally came out for their final attempt.
The drivers return to the track for their next attempt. The Williams begin their first run in this Q3.
Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull) takes provisional third position, 0″558 behind Lewis Hamilton.
1'35″442 for Rosberg, beaten by Hamilton by 72 thousandths. Max Verstappen climbs into third position at 634 thousandths. The Ferraris failed in 4th and 5th positions at 1″083 for Vettel and 1″105 for Räikkönen
Nico Rosberg's mistake in going wide in the first corner of his flying lap. Hamilton logically takes the best first part of this first attempt.

Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull) set the best time in Q2 in 1'36″255 and was ahead of the two Mercedes of Rosberg by 96 thousandths and Hamilton by 195 thousandths. Vettelet Räikkönen (Ferrari) follow in the standings ahead of Hülkenberg (Force India) and Verstappen (Red Bull). The W07 Hybrid and Verstappen's RB12 reached Q2 on soft tires.
However, Sergio Pérez (Force India), Fernando Alonso (McLaren), Daniil Kvyat (Toro Rosso), Esteban Gutiérrez (Haas), Jolyon Palmer (Renault) and Marcus Ericsson (Sauber) are eliminated.
Hülkenberg (Force India) in turn improves and moves to 6th ahead of Verstappen. Meanwhile, Sainz (Toro Rosso) climbs to 8th position and eliminates Alonso from Q3. Massa sets the 10th time with his Williams and takes out Sergio Pérez (Force India).
Alonso (McLaren) improves and climbs to 9th position at 1″162.
The top 6 including Max Verstappen remained in the pits. The Dutchman could see his bet to progress to Q3 on soft tires succeed.
Vettel and Räikkönen hoist the two Ferraris into 4th and 5th positions ahead of Max Verstappen.
