Bahrain F1 Tests
Thank you for following these tests with us, and see you on AUTOhebdo next weekend for a new live commentary at the Bahrain Grand Prix!
End clap: winter testing is over! Here is the general ranking of this last session:
Sergio Pérez dominates this last session, ahead of Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas. The two Ferraris are placed behind. Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon finished these three days in 12th and 14th position
And it's Alexander Albon who wins the number of laps completed today, with 136 loops!
Back to green, the drivers set off one last time in Bahrain, the AlphaTauri in the lead. Like a Grand Prix starting tune!
Red flag in Bahrain, a simple FIA exercise. Yuki Tsunoda, Lando Norris, Sergio Pérez and Valtteri Bottas wait for the green flag to go out one last time on the circuit
We are nearing the end of the session, and the FIA is doing its final tests. A Virtual Safety Car regime is imposed, which will certainly be followed by a yellow flag, then a red flag
We are entering the last twenty minutes of these three days of testing!
Lando Norris has returned to the track, he now has 25 laps on his clock, making him the driver who has driven the least today
After a difficult day, Bottas regained color in this last hour. The Finn is in third position, in 1'30″827, on the softest compound
Sergio Pérez, himself, is not there to play: he once again sets the best time in testing, short of Leclerc's pole in 2022. 1'30″305 for the Mexican!
Meanwhile, Lando Norris is having as much fun as he can despite not being able to get behind the wheel of his McLaren
Speaking of the wolf, Esteban Ocon took to the track… but on hard tires, probably in a race simulation.
It's the last hour of winter testing, and the rankings have moved a lot in the last few minutes:
The first position is a close call, but the time set by Leclerc this morning remains sufficient to stay on the podium. Several drivers took advantage of a constantly improving track to do qualifying simulations… except Alpine, which remains discreet. Are the French hiding their game?
As a preview of a qualifying session in Bahrain, Hamilton sets off again for a fast lap. But his last sector deprives him of a first place, he is 48 thousandths behind Pérez
A Red Bull in the lead for the first time of the day! The times fall on an increasingly efficient track, and Pérez signs a 1’30″616 in C4, against Lewis Hamilton's C5 compound
If you haven't seen the MCL60 in a while, that's okay... Lando Norris is in the garage, and has only been able to complete 17 laps. Another difficult day for McLaren
But it was Lewis Hamilton who caused a sensation by lighting the first two sectors in purple… and setting the best time! The Briton passes the ceiling of 1'31: 1'30″781 on the softest compound. For comparison, pole was taken by Leclerc last year in 1'30″558
Pérez put on the softs and moved up to 4th position, inserting himself between the two Mercedes
Big wheel lock on the front right of Esteban Ocon, he returns to the track after taking off
A final sector in purple for Hamilton and his soft tires, as night falls in earnest on this last day of testing. The Briton takes third place, 0.221 behind Leclerc
A clearing in the McLaren landscape! Lando Norris propels his MCL60 into eighth position, after spending a good part of the session at the bottom of the ranking. He sets a lap in 1'32″691
