2025, a pivotal year for Di Giannantonio and VR46?

This season will undoubtedly be the most important of Fabio di Giannantonio's career. The Italian, who joined the VR46 team last year, will be given a new challenge to grow within the Ducati family. In mid-summer, he signed a two-year contract with Borgo Panigale. An agreement that will see him equipped with an official machine for the entire period.

With the departure of Pramac to Yamaha, Ducati's workforce will be reduced to six machines. While VR46 will have only one official machine, compared to two for the former Jorge Martín team.

Fabio Di Giannantonio will thus be the only one to fight with the same weapons as Marc Marquez and Pecco Bagnaia, drivers of the official structure. The pressure is likely to rise a notch. Some of his predecessors have proven in the past that it is not enough to have the fastest machine on the grid to win races.

For example, last year, Franco Morbidelli, 2020 vice-world champion, did not achieve a single podium in a race with his GP24, while his teammate was in the fight for the title.

The challenge will be huge, but Di Giannantonio has the full confidence of his team and the support of Ducati. Which already allows him to display great ambitions. In 2025, he wants to upset the two favorites for the title, Marquez and Bagnaia.

A major challenge for VR46

This 2025 MotoGP season will not only be important for the Italian rider, however. The team Valentino Rossi will also have things to prove. In the last two MotoGP seasons, Jorge Martín and Pramac Racing have proven that by working as well as the factory, the latter can be challenged.

A determination that paid off, since in 2023, the team was crowned Team champion. In 2024, it was the Drivers' title that Pramac and Martin snatched from the hands of Bagnaia and the official team.

This is therefore a golden opportunity for the VR46 team. The satellite structure will be able to prove that it has the weapons to fight at the front. This two-year agreement between VR46 and the Bologna manufacturer could well open the most fruitful chapter and Rossi's team. Even if realistically, it will be difficult to compete with an official team greatly strengthened by the arrival of Marc Marquez.

Given the two monsters that the official team will field, it is difficult to imagine that Fabio Di Giannantonio will fight for the title. The Italian will nevertheless play on equal terms with them. He could therefore distinguish himself on a few occasions. And thus train himself to display more ambitions in the future.

The 2025 VR46 season will kick off on January 25 in Jakarta, Indonesia. A country to which the team has been attached since last season. The date on which it formalized the signing of its new title sponsor, Pertamina Enduro.
