Very soon after the start of the French MotoGP Grand Prix, Álex Márquez crashed, instantly ending his hopes of a result at Le Mans. While frustrating, this scenario doesn't diminish the progress made by Gresini from the Spaniard's perspective.

Winner of the Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez on April 26th, Álex Márquez was the first to state at the start of the weekend that a victory outright would be impossible for him and his team. At Le Mans, the rider who was in 9th place...e His starting grid position meant he couldn't envision victory as such, but his crash on the second lap dashed any hopes he might have had afterwards.

"There was a slight impact with my head hitting the ground, but nothing more." he reassured"I changed direction at turns three and four, and then suddenly I did a little wheelie. When I hit the ground, the bike wobbled a lot, and then I fell. I wasn't expecting that; it was a really stupid mistake."

Finding it difficult to justify this mistake, the Spaniard nevertheless tried to explain to onlookers how his fall had unfolded. "I did one lap and two corners. I don't know what to say, that's how it is. I made a mistake, there's nothing more to say. During the warm-up, it was a bit more slippery. A bit more difficult to get the temperature up on the track, but nothing more."

However, not everything seems to be a complete write-off in Gresini's weekend. For Álex Márquez, the signs are even more positive, suggesting further exponential progress to come. "It wasn't bad today at all. We were able to take a step forward, I think we're better. Up front, they're still very, very strong. But as time goes on, we're getting more opportunities to fight with them. That seemed impossible just a few weeks ago."

As early as this weekend, a possible confirmation of this rhythm mentioned could well be observed in Catalonia.
