Author of a “perfect sprint”, Alex Márquez beat his brother Marc

Marc Márquez's dominance in the Sprints in 2025 has come to an end, and it was his brother Alex who took charge, winning at Silverstone.

Winner of the Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez de la Frontera, Álex Márquez prevailed in a field that no longer really featured his brother Marc, who fell in the opening laps of the race. This time, in the very British grey of Silverstone, the Gresini Racing driver got the better of his eight-time world champion brother. Only one point gained in the championship, certainly, but a victory with immense symbolism.

Growing up in the shadow of a rider as gifted as the #93 is no easy feat, but this season, the younger Márquez is making a name for himself. Riding a Ducati Demosedici GP24 that he masters perfectly, he is the revelation of this early season, and it's already hard to imagine that the world champion won't carry the Márquez name this year. On the Silverstone track where he won his first Sprint in 2023, the #73 rolled through after taking the lead following a small mistake by his big brother.

Perfect sensations

"I'm really happy, it was the perfect sprint for us, exactly as we could have wished. I didn't get off to a great start, though. I was still able to stay at the front without losing too many positions, which was very important. When Marc went a bit wide, I told myself that I had to push until the end and keep up my pace."

Although he has reached a "perfect" level of feeling with his machine, the second-place finisher in the world championship still keeps his feet firmly on the ground. He knows he will have to succeed in getting the job done in Sunday's Grand Prix, which will be worth twice as many points, since its distance will also be twice as long as Saturday's Sprint.

"I had a very good feeling with the bike, everything was perfect. We have to stay focused, because the most important day is still Sunday."
