While the phrase "who can beat Marc Márquez?" has been repeated many times over the past 12 years, the version that includes his brother Alex is rarer! While the older rider's dominance has been impressive since the start of the season, with three wins in as many races, it's worth remembering that his younger brother was always lurking. The two Spaniards have reigned supreme at the start of the campaign, and it's hard to see them being deprived of their podium positions this Sunday, given their pace in the Sprint.
The numbers 93 and 73 quickly left Pecco Bagnaia, on the second factory Ducati, far behind. The Cervera natives therefore led the race as if in their own world, which reminded the younger rider of the many training sessions they have shared over the years.
"It was a great race. Seeing Marc in front for the whole race, I thought we were back in training! I dropped off a little bit at the end because I was totally at my limit, I couldn't attack him.", explained the Gresini driver in the Parc Fermé. "As I saw that Pecco was far away, I didn't take any risks. I'm very happy, and we'll have to continue like this on Sunday for the main race."
Alex Marquez "hard to beat" for Marc
The same story from the older brother, whose leadership did not seem to be contested over the twelve laps of the race. However, he sees in his younger brother a formidable opponent, who managed to line up the laps with impressive consistency. If the road seems clear for a fourth success this season on Sunday, the six-time world champion MotoGP remains suspicious.
“It was a very difficult victory to get, because Alex was pushing a lot, and so was I! The pace was incredible, as we spent most of the race in 1'37s. I pushed harder on some laps, but the gap didn't increase. I kept pushing in the last laps, and I think he started to slow down because we had a big lead over the third-placed rider. Tomorrow it will be very difficult to beat him again, as he is really consistent.”
Third again, Pecco Bagnaia admits defeat... for the moment: "I did my best, I managed to reduce the gap but it wasn't enough to fight against the Márquez brothers. At the moment they are faster, but we have to keep adapting and improving like this."
