The Gresini team rookie started from second on the grid for the sprint and quickly took control of the race, taking advantage of a missed start by polesitter Marco Bezzecchi. Aldeguer led most of the laps, keeping his pursuers like Raúl Fernández and Luca Marini at bay.

But on the final lap, Marco Bezzecchi, who had come back strongly from seventh place, launched a decisive attack to snatch victory from Aldeguer. The latter nevertheless achieved his best result in MotoGP with this second place, enough to make the disappointment go away.

“We can be happy, because being on the podium is always nice, he confides after the ordeal. But it's true that after leading the whole race, losing the victory on the last lap is never pleasant. Bezzecchi's pace is much better than ours, I tried to use his mistake at the start to try to widen the gap, which I managed to do. But he came back, he had more speed and I lost the victory. Once again, we can be happy and tomorrow we can try to do the same thing."

Already looking ahead to the race, which will start this Sunday at 09:00 a.m. (French time), Aldeguer analyzes "We have a chance to get on the podium in the main race. Tomorrow we'll use the medium rear tire, which is difficult to warm up. We need to be in the top positions from the first laps and then try to establish our rhythm, try to follow Bezzecchi, if he's in front of me. We have to look at where we can be better than him and if there are opportunities in the last laps, we'll take them of course!"
