Starting from the front row after his third-fastest qualifying time, Johann Zarco made a good start this time, unlike on Saturday, and found himself in the fight for the podium from the outset. The French rider even tried his luck twice on Francesco Bagnaia's Ducati, who had moved up to third at the start, but was unable to overtake the Italian. Franco Morbidelli's comeback, launching like a devil with his soft rear tire, brought Zarco back to fifth position for almost the entire race.

The Cannes rider finally had to admit defeat on the final lap against Fabio di Giannantonio's other Ducati VR46, who finished fifth. Despite this, with a fourth and sixth place finish in the weekend's two contests, the Frenchman was always the best of the others, behind the Ducatis. Enough to celebrate a rather unexpected weekend, as he explained on Canal+.

"It's more than positive, that's clear, it's great. It's a dream weekend, but we wanted to dream until the end! There was an opportunity so we wanted to fight for the podium, so the first feeling is a bit of disappointment, and we can accept that. But after that, I'm very happy, I'm scoring big points, the gap to the winner isn't ridiculous, and we finished first Honda behind five Ducatis, it's not bad!"

After the first two rounds of the season, Johann Zarco sits sixth in the world championship. A performance that the entire Honda factory would have welcomed with open arms last year, when the Japanese brand had its worst season ever. While Yamaha was expected to bounce back in 2025, it seems likely that the brand with the golden wing will find it... much to the delight of the number 5.

Well done Johann, luckily we have it because the GPs risk being as boring as the first two with this Ducati Cup and the pseudo fight between the Marquez brothers.
