Johann Zarco reassures despite a torn ligament and a broken leg

Johann Zarco gives reassuring news about his health after a worrying accident during the Catalan GP.

A few hours after his terrifying crash during the restart of the Catalan Grand Prix race MotoGPJohann Zarco has provided an update. As a reminder, the race was interrupted after another worrying crash involving Álex Márquez and Pedro Acosta. During the restart, the Frenchman missed his braking point at turn 1 and took Pecco Bagnaia and Luca Marini down with him.

While sliding on the track, then into the gravel trap, his left leg got caught in the rear wheel of the Italian's Ducati, and the Frenchman remained lying on the ground for a long time.

A few hours later, he gave reassuring news about his health on his Instagram account: « Hi everyone, just to reassure you, we're still waiting for the test results. I have a neck brace, but it's more of a nuisance than anything else. It's mainly my knee; the ligaments tore, but my femur isn't broken. There's also a small fracture in the lower part of my fibula, on the outside of my left ankle.

This suggests that the Frenchman is "doing well," given the nature of the incident. He will nevertheless spend the night in the hospital as doctors wish to keep a close eye on him.

For his part, Pecco Bagnaia is struggling to understand the incident, and suspects a technical problem with the RC213v of the Cannes native: "JI was just expecting everyone to be more cautious at the first braking point, but after reviewing the footage, Zarco didn't do anything wrong, so something was wrong with his bike, because he started braking early but couldn't bring the bike to a complete stop. So something happened. » He was deeply affected by the shock: "My impact on the ground was very violent, enormous, but as soon as I saw my motorcycle and it touched hers, I saw her leg, and her pain had a big impact on me."

It is difficult to know at this stage whether Johann Zarco will participate in the next Grand Prix, in Italy, on the weekend of May 31.
