The shocking image of Johann Zarco's crash on Sunday during the second start of the Catalan Grand Prix is still fresh in everyone's minds. The Honda LCR rider collided with Francesco Bagnaia and Luca Marini, his leg becoming trapped in the number 63 Ducati, which then began to roll. After receiving treatment at the circuit's medical center and then at a hospital in Barcelona, Johann Zarco returned to France and is now being treated by Dr. Bertrand Sonnery-Cottet, a ligament surgery specialist.
“On Tuesday, May 19, Johann Zarco went to Lyon to see Dr. Bertrand Sonnery-Cottet, a world-renowned orthopedic surgeon practicing at the Santyin Orthopedic Center, specializing in the treatment of knee ligament injuries and sports trauma, in order to have his physical condition assessed in more detail.”explained the LCR team. "Following a thorough examination, it is estimated that he will have to wait a few weeks before undergoing surgery to repair his ligaments, in order to allow time for the initial trauma and other knee injuries to heal before the operation."
The French driver will therefore not be able to undergo surgery immediately, and his absence could be lengthy. Only after the operation performed by Dr. Sonnery-Cottet will the Cannes native be able to plan a return date. “Following the procedure, a detailed rehabilitation plan will be drawn up, allowing the medical team to assess a possible timeline for his return. The entire Castrol Honda LCR team is in close contact with Johann Zarco and will continue to provide updates as the date approaches.”
