The Spanish rider was only able to debut his number 1 in a handful of Grands Prix on his Aprilia, having suffered two injuries before the start of the season. Returning for the Qatar Grand Prix, Martín crashed during the race and fractured eleven ribs, before injuring himself a final time at the end of the year in Motegi, Japan. It was to definitively put all these injuries behind him that the Madrid native opted for surgery during the off-season, aiming to resolve all the remaining minor issues.

"When I drove in Valencia, the decision to have the operation had not yet been made."he said in Sepang, Malaysia. “In Valencia, I started having some problems; I felt uncomfortable with certain parts of my body, and once everything was checked, I understood that I needed to go back under the knife. I had the operation as soon as possible, in order to be ready for the season. It was the right decision; I won't be able to start at 100% physically, but at least I can put this difficult 2025 season behind me. I feel even more ready than usual, and I feel that once I'm fit, I'll be fighting at the front with this incredibly fast Aprilia.”

Present at pre-season testing with his team, Jorge Martín is therefore unable to test the Aprilia RS-GP26 he will be riding at this time. While he is also expected to withdraw from the Buriram tests in Thailand, the goal of returning to the track for the first Grand Prix of the season at the same circuit remains.

“I’ve already started physical training; even here in Malaysia, I have physios who come to my room every morning. The plan is to check with the doctors again on Monday, hope that everything is okay, and then we can target the Thai Grand Prix for a comeback.”

The driver with number 89 was certainly keen to reunite with the racing team he will be working with in 2026, if only to perfect his preparation, as he will therefore have to compete in the season without having carried out any prior testing with his machine: "From the outside, it's hard to say, but you can see a lot of new aerodynamic features on the bikes. I wanted to be here to be involved with the team and mentally prepare myself to get back into race mode. Also to understand what's better and what's not so good, so that everything won't be new when I arrive in Thailand."
