What if the Aprilia-Jorge Martin marriage turns sour? Indeed, according to information from Sky Sports Italy, this Monday, May 12, the reigning world champion of MotoGP, under contract until the end of 2026 with the Noale team, would like to leave the team at the end of this year. Our colleagues even indicate that he has already started discussions with Honda for next year.

Although the two parties are still far from a separation, the Spanish driver could take advantage of a release clause in his contract to leave for the competition. Thus, according to Sky Sports, this stipulates that if he was not classified among the title contenders after six races, or after Le Mans, he was then simply not obliged to honor his second year of contract.

Jorge Martin out for a long time due to a heavy crash in Qatar

Jorge Martin finds himself in this situation. And for good reason: the Madrid native, who was injured during the offseason, initially missed the first three GPs of the season. Then, upon his return to Qatar, the reigning champion suffered another serious injury, notably suffering multiple rib fractures. Since then, his progress has been closely monitored. And it's still difficult to say when he will be 100% fit.

Contacted by Sky Sports, the stable simply split a "No comment". Furthermore, our colleagues assure that the Spaniard's agents have proposed to Aprilia an updated contract with a new date to take stock and discuss the future. This could be around the Misano GP in September.

For its part, according to the Italian media, the Noale team would remain firm in its position, that is, strict adherence to the two-year contract. Especially since, for the moment, it is not possible to evaluate Jorge Martin's performance. Finally, the team could even consider legal action if negotiations were to drag on and become more difficult.
