While no confirmation has been made by the person in question or his Aprilia team, the Spanish newspaper El Periodico reports indicate that Jorge Martín has undergone two further operations and may not be able to return to riding during the pre-season tests. MotoGP scheduled from February 3 to 5 in Sepang (Malaysia).

Since his title win at the end of 2024, the world champion has been plagued by misfortune. It all started with a heavy crash during winter testing at Sepang last year, in which he fractured his right hand and left foot. Martín suffered a relapse a few weeks later during training, fracturing his left radius and scaphoid, two essential bones in the hand and wrist for riding, forcing him to withdraw from the first three rounds of the 2025 season in Thailand, Argentina, and the United States.

Back at the Qatar Grand Prix, his season took a cruel turn at turn 11 of the Losail circuit. After crashing, he was hit by Fabio Di Giannantonio's motorcycle, breaking eleven ribs and suffering a pneumothorax. The Madrid native finally got back on his bike at the Czech Grand Prix, only to fall again a few weekends later at the Sprint Grand Prix in Japan, this time fracturing his right collarbone. This new injury ended his season, apart from a symbolic appearance at the final race in Valencia, where he retired on lap 16 to conserve his energy for the post-season tests.

A return to the track remains uncertain

Since its last outing on track during testing at the Ricardo Tormo circuit, " Martinator He reportedly hasn't returned to the saddle. Still far from his full physical condition, he is even said to have undergone two more surgeries during the winter break, fueling doubts about his participation in pre-season testing. According to El Periódico, the Aprilia rider has had another operation on his left hand as well as another on his right clavicle.

Under these circumstances, the Spaniard could be forced to miss the first MotoGP tests of the 2026 season, scheduled for February 3-5 in Sepang, Malaysia. Depending on the progress of his recovery, his participation could still be considered for the subsequent tests, organized in Buriram, Thailand, on February 21 and 22, before the start of the season the following week at the same circuit.

A season start that isn't fully recovered could also weigh on Jorge Martín's future. With 2027 approaching, and only Diogo Moreira and Johann Zarco currently under contract, teams are waiting for sporting and physical guarantees before making a move. Already close to leaving Aprilia during the 2025 season due to pressure, he can no longer afford another truncated preseason, risking a drop in value despite his status as world champion. However, the Spaniard has proven he hasn't lost any of his talent, as evidenced by his solid fourth-place finish in Hungary last year, achieved after starting from the back of the grid.
