Marc Márquez perplexed after his 2nd place at Le Mans: "I don't understand much of it"

Marc Márquez himself is struggling to explain his performance during qualifying for the French Grand Prix. MotoGPRelegated to Q1 after Friday's sessions, everything improved for the Spaniard as he approached this first phase. Stringing together fast laps, the multiple world champion navigated it with ease, shattering the track record previously held by fabio quartararo (1: 29.324).

However, his lap time of 1:29.288, which he set, was never challenged by anyone for the rest of the morning, not even in Q2 at Le Mans. He himself was unable to replicate his performance. After the race, a feeling of bewilderment overwhelmed Marc Márquez in parc fermé.

“I’m at a point where I don’t understand much, especially my driving technique, because I can’t seem to be consistent,” number 93 expressed his regret to Canal+. "When I have that extra adrenaline rush, I can do it, because I know how to be fast on a motorcycle, but I struggle to be consistent."

Starting from pole position, his teammate Pecco Bagnaia completed his best attempt in 1:29.634, nearly four-tenths of a second off a record set just minutes earlier. Marc Márquez, meanwhile, was 12 thousandths of a second slower than his teammate.

“As we saw in Q1, I did an exceptional lap, which I wasn’t able to repeat in Q2,” He continues. That was still enough. I'll see if we can understand, step by step, what's happening. We're understanding better and better, but that will remain the objective for the coming weeks.

The weekend's races haven't started yet, but there won't be any more real opportunities for Marc Márquez to try and set fast lap times at Le Mans. The Spaniard has therefore already somewhat set his sights on the Catalan Grand Prix to try and find solutions in qualifying on home soil.
