What if Marc Marquez suddenly adopted his brother's strategy? Metronomic before Le Mans, Alex Marquez had in fact multiplied second places until then, and had even taken the lead of the World Championship for a weekend after his first victory in MotoGP in Jerez. Marc Marquez quickly regained the lead in France, but no longer seems as untouchable as he initially did.
Despite his numerous victories and multiple world titles, Marc Marquez still struggles on the fast Silverstone circuit. A look at the track's record at the British race reveals a drought of nearly 11 years for the Spaniard. In a press conference, the man himself made a point of highlighting this lack of success on this track.
"This weekend, the priority is to score points. That's the most important thing. From there, we'll see what opportunities arise. It's a circuit where I expect an Alex (Marquez. Ed.) and a Pecco (Bagnaia. Editor's note) very strong, because it's not one of the best tracks for me. Since 2014, I've never won here. So we'll see if we can stay close to them and manage the situation well."
Silverstone, an important step for Marquez
Although he hasn't won since 2014 in Great Britain, Marc Marquez has good memories of this event. A victory over Jorge Lorenzo, this stage was one of the milestones of Marquez's second world title in the last decade.
More generally, this circuit is particularly uncertain as to the identity of the winner. With ten different winners in ten editions, Silverstone promises its share of surprises each time. In 2024, for example, Enea Bastianini won his first victory of the season, while Aleix Espargaró earned the Aprilia team's first MotoGP victory the previous year, notably overtaking Francesco Bagnaia on the final lap of the race, himself the winner of the 2022 edition.
With rain potentially expected as early as this Saturday, the day of qualifying and the sprint race, the cards could be reshuffled once again. Although he was not mentioned by Marc Marquez, fabio quartararo would also have revenge to take on a wet track after his crash at home, during the French Grand Prix at Le Mans.
