Japanese GP: Marc Márquez champion after the race if…

This Sunday, the Japanese Grand Prix could seal the fate of the 2025 championship. MotoGPBy finishing second in the Sprint behind Pecco Bagnaia, Marc Márquez extended his lead over his brother Alex, who was only tenth and without a single point. The Ducati rider now has a very real chance of winning the championship this Sunday at Motegi. To achieve this, he will have to avoid conceding more than six points to his younger brother.

The six-time MotoGP world champion could win the title in a variety of situations, depending on his ranking and that of Álex Márquez. Here are the scenarios:

• If he wins or finishes 2nd, he is automatically champion.
• If he finishes 3rd, he will be champion provided that Alex does not win.
• If he finishes 4th, 5th or 6th, then Alex should not do better than 3rd.
• If he finishes 7th, 8th or 9th, Alex will have to do no better than 4th.
• If he finishes 10th or 11th, Alex should not exceed 5th place.
• If he finishes 12th, Alex will have to settle for 6th place at most.
• If he takes 13th place, Alex will have to be 7th at best.
• If he finishes 14th, Alex will have to do no better than 8th.
• If he finishes 15th, Alex will have to be 9th at best.

If Marc Márquez scores zero, Alex must not finish better than 10th.

In other words, barring a huge underperformance, Marc Márquez has his destiny in his own hands and could officially clinch another victory in front of the Japanese stands, at the end of a race that will start at 07:00 a.m.
