The world championship leader, who will be crowned champion if he scores three more points than his brother Alex over the Japanese Grand Prix weekend, did not completely dominate his subject this Sunday, the fault of a conquering Marco Bezzecchi who started from pole position.
Glued to the rear wheel of the Aprilia throughout the start of the race, Marc Márquez put pressure on his Italian counterpart, who ended up making a small mistake entering Turn 8. It didn't take another invitation for Márquez to take advantage, but while he wanted to increase his gap over the following laps, he had to deal with the #72, which he couldn't let go.
« Today I really gave it my all. Yesterday's mistake gave me more focus, more power, more energy. I was just following Marco, trying to push him into making a mistake because I thought it wasn't possible to do 27 laps without a mistake! He finally made a small mistake at Turn 8, which allowed me to take the lead."
Italian double for Márquez and Ducati
Having already won the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello earlier this season, Marc Márquez has now won both Italian rounds on the calendar this season. This was a very important goal for him, who is officially representing the Borgo Panigale factory for the first time, following his season with Ducati Gresini last year.
“I struggled a bit on some laps but I managed to get back into the rhythm and the feeling a bit. It’s very good for Ducati, I felt a bit of pressure this weekend because I know it’s very important for the brand to win both Grands Prix in Italy. We did it, so I’m delighted for all the Ducatisti!”
