Just seven days after his victory in Japan, Pecco Bagnaia ended his weekend in Mandalika in great difficulty. Starting 16th on the grid for the Indonesian GP, he never managed to match the pace of his rivals. Somkiat Chantra, who was at the back of the pack, had a lead of more than 15 seconds over the Italian before the latter crashed.

Asked about his race, the Ducati rider recalled his past difficulties on the Mandalika circuit, although he did not expect such a poor performance.

“Very disappointing weekend after what happened last week, regrets number 63. A week after taking pole position and winning both races, I was hoping to get here, and even though this Mandalika circuit has never been easy for me, I've always had good results. In fact, last year I won the sprint here and finished third in the race.

Especially since after this victory, he expected to have the weapons to repeat his feat.. "This season, after the Motegi GP, I arrived here without finding the same sensations as there. I wasn't able to attack in the same way, so I struggled. We don't really have an explanation for what happened this weekend, we'll just check the data."

Championship consequences for Bagnaia

In the incomprehension, as has been the case too often this season, calls on Ducati to identify what handicapped it during the weekend at Mandalika.

"I hope the engineers will find a solution for the next GP and that we can fight for the top three in the championship. I want to apologize to the team for the crash. I was pushing, even though I was 1,5 seconds slower. I would like to apologize because I wanted to close the gap to the second-to-last rider, and I ended up crashing." concludes Pecco Bagnaia.

This poor weekend also has consequences for the championship. Marco Bezzecchi, winner of the Sprint, is now only 20 points behind Pecco Bagnaia in third place.
