The big price MotoGP The British Championship has established itself over the years as one of the most open and unpredictable events on the calendar. The proof? Over the last ten editions, ten different drivers have won, a unique statistic among the world championship circuits..
Since 2013, and Jorge Lorenzo's second consecutive victory, every MotoGP Grand Prix held at Silverstone has crowned a new winner. Following the Spaniard, it was current championship leader Marc Marquez who claimed his only victory in England.
Although the favorite for this weekend's race, given his consistency this season, the Spaniard has never been accustomed to great results at a Grand Prix that he has abandoned four times, and missed twice due to injury.
Among the current riders on the grid, six have already won at Silverstone. In 2016, Maverick Viñales notably claimed his first MotoGP victory there, riding a Suzuki. Three years later, Alex Rins claimed victory at the British track with the same brand.
fabio quartararo, Francesco Bagnaia and Aleix Espargaró won the following editions, before Enea Bastianini became the tenth winner in ten events held in Great Britain last year.
These ten winners have helped maintain this statistic over the past ten years, with the event having been canceled twice in the meantime. The first time in 2018, due to weather, and the second time in 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The winners of the last ten MotoGP races at Silverstone:
Year | Winner | Motorcycle |
---|---|---|
2013 | Jorge Lorenzo | Yamaha |
2014 | Marc Márquez | Honda |
2015 | Valentino Rossi | Yamaha |
2016 | Maverick Vinales | Suzuki |
2017 | Andrea Dovizioso | Ducati |
2019 | alex rins | Suzuki |
2021 | fabio quartararo | Yamaha |
2022 | Francis Bagnaia | Ducati |
2023 | Aleix Espargaró | Aprilia |
2024 | Enea Bastianini | Ducati |
While the 2025 season is shaping up to be less competitive than previous seasons, Marc Marquez's rivals—who is already on this list—are few and far between. Should the Spaniard, his teammate, or his fellow favorite Pecco Bagnaia win, this run would come to an end.
On the other hand, if one of the Gresini riders, Fermin Aldeguer and Alex Marquez, wins, an eleventh different winner would be crowned this Sunday. It's worth noting that if Fermin Aldeguer wins the MotoGP British Grand Prix, he would also take Marc Marquez's record for early victory, becoming the youngest winner in history, by a few days.
