At the French Grand Prix MotoGP In 2026, rain will likely make an appearance to spoil the party… or to make the local star happy, winner of a rainy 2025 edition: Johann Zarco.

The action will begin under a relatively low threat of rain on Friday, which is expected to be the driest day of the event at the Bugatti circuit. However, things will get more complicated on Saturday. The Sprint, the first race of the weekend scheduled for 15:00 PM, is expected to be wet, with a 50% chance of showers in the afternoon at Le Mans. On Sunday, the Sarthe region's characteristic showers will once again hit the circuit. The risk of precipitation rises to 80% in the afternoon, just before the start of the Grand Prix at 14:00 PM, with thunderstorms threatening the Sarthe region. While the forecast could still change as the event approaches, rain seems inevitable.

Will Johann Zarco repeat his 2025 feat?

In 2025, rain had reshuffled the deck even before the start of the race, delaying the beginning of the French Grand Prix. The situation changed dramatically on lap seven. While the Márquez brothers pitted to switch to a rain-ready bike, Johann Zarco found himself in the lead. On home soil, the Cannes native had to battle against none other than Marc Márquez, who threatened the number 5's lead as soon as he rejoined the track. But in the rain, Johann Zarco worked wonders and held off the now nine-time world champion. With a 16-second lead over his rival with four laps to go, the Frenchman kept his fans on the edge of their seats. With each lap, he got a little closer to victory at the French GP. Each lap, he had to navigate the treacherous conditions of the soaked asphalt at the Bugatti circuit. And he succeeded. Johann Zarco then triumphed, on home soil, becoming the first French winner in the premier category at Le Mans.

So, if the 2026 French MotoGP Grand Prix is also marked by heavy rain, expectations will be high for the LCR team. Especially since in Jerez, Johann Zarco once again demonstrated his skill in the downpours, valiantly battling for pole position on the wet asphalt of the Jerez-Ángel Nieto circuit. While Marc Márquez ultimately edged him out, Johann Zarco certainly didn't disgrace himself, being the only rider able to challenge the number 93 in those treacherous conditions. Such a performance fuels the hopes of French motorcycle fans as they approach the 39th French MotoGP Grand Prix at the Bugatti circuit.
