In the closing laps of the first sprint race of the season, Marc Márquez attempted an inside pass on Pedro Acosta. The Ducati rider slightly widened his line, forcing number 37 off the track. The stewards deemed the overtake poorly executed and penalized the nine-time world champion, who had to give the position back to the KTM rider. He complied in the final corner, handing his first victory in the discipline to his fellow Spaniard, who became the youngest Sprint winner at 21 years and 279 days.
