German GP, ​​last opportunity for Acosta to break Marquez's record

Making his debut in the premier class at just 19 years old, Pedro Acosta had nine opportunities to become the youngest winner in MotoGP. The German GP will be the last.

Pedro Acosta began his career in MotoGP on March 10, for the inaugural round of the 2024 season in Qatar. While he had already dethroned Marc Marquez to obtain the status of youngest Moto2 world champion – second youngest in the intermediate category behind Dani Pedrosa – the 19-year-old Spaniard had eleven opportunities to set another precocity record held by the eight-time world champion.

The cancellation of two Grands Prix in the first part of the season, however, reduced this figure to nine opportunities.

On April 21, 2013, rookie Marc Marquez scored his first MotoGP victory in Austin, at the end of the Grand Prix of the Americas which was only the second race of the season2. Then aged 20 years and 63 days, he became the youngest winner the discipline has ever known.

Between Qatar and Germany, Acosta had eleven opportunities to break this mark. Born on May 25, 2004, the driver from Mazarrón competed in five of the twenty-two events on the calendar before his twentieth birthday. After the Catalan Grand Prix, in which he reached this milestone on Sprint Day, and the Dutch Grand Prix, he had three more chances. The German Grand Prix, on the Sachsenring circuit, will be his last chance to take his record away from the Gresini driver.

At the dawn of the German Grand Prix, the KTM rider will be 20 years and 43 days old, but with the British Grand Prix (10/20) taking place four weeks later, on August 4, 2024, the n°31 will have already exceeded Marquez's age during his first success in the premier category.
