David Alonso, the undisputed leader of the Moto3 World Championship, arrived in Japan last week with a chance to end the title race.

Things were not easy, however, during a weekend where changing track conditions left teams little time to gather much information for the race. At the start, the #80 was passed by a good number of its rivals. Before erasing them one after the other to finally win.

With a lead of over a hundred points when he crossed the checkered flag – with a hundred still at stake – the Colombian took the world title with four rounds remaining in the season, becoming the first representative of his country to do so, as well as the first South American champion, in any class, for over forty years.

This victory, won after a tenth victory this season, allows him to equal the record of Marc Marquez, Joan Mir and Fausto Gresini in the smallest of classes. Alonso is also getting closer to the record of a certain Valentino RossiThe Doctor having won eleven times in 125cc, during the 1997 season.

This success was greeted with great enthusiasm by the pilots of MotoGP, as the popularity rating of the man who joined the paddock last year continues to rise.

Appreciated for his great sympathy capital, as well as his thirst to progress, some drivers from the premier category went to greet him directly in the pit lane, before the podium, to then say a few words about this exploit.

"I like him a lot, I really like him a lot. Especially because he has charisma, Marc Marquez commented in particular at the end of the main race in Motegi. He has his feet on the ground. He constantly asks what he can improve. Alonso often comes to me just to get advice."

“Alonso reminds me of Quartararo”

Very close to the Colombian since his arrival in Moto3 last year, the multiple World Champion nevertheless insists on the fact that there is no point in wanting to rush his rise.

"This title is truly deserved. Now he has to enjoy it: he is Moto3 World Champion. We must not put pressure on the children, He continues. Next year he will be promoted to Moto2, and he will make mistakes. That's normal. He needs time, but we'll see. I hope, and I wish, that he becomes a great champion in the future."

For his part, Aleix Espargaro analyses the latter's performances, confiding that memories of the debut of the 2021 French MotoGP World Champion, fabio quartararo, come back to him with David Alonso.

« Today's race was a masterclass, he almost walked around, continues the n°41 in front of the Spanish press. What I like most is the essence that this child has, he is always calm and happy. He transmits happiness, I really like people who laugh and transmit happiness. He reminds me a lot of Fabio Quartararo »

In 2025, the Aspar rider will make the transition that is often considered the most complicated in the World Championship. He will join the Moto2 structure of his current team. The rookie of this 2024 MotoGP season, had made an identical transfer within the Ajo structure (KTM). He then had a difficult adaptation season, before dominating the class in 2023, during his second participation.
