Austria – Tests: Bagnaia responds to Martin

Bagnaia ahead of Martin in Austria - Michelin

Le MotoGP officially begins its second part of the season this weekend, with the eleventh round of its 2024 season which will take place in Austria. At home, KTM will try to overturn the domination established by Ducati over many events, and will be able to count on its five representatives – with Pol Espargaro – to make the brand shine. THE Red Bull Ring will also be the scene of the ever more intense fight between Pecco Bagnaia and Jorge Martin, who are separated by only three points before the first awards.

Tests:

  • The practice session begins, the aim here is to qualify in the first 10 to gain direct access to Q2. When it's time to hit the track, Jorge Martin gets scared and takes a trip into the gravel trap. Without consequences for the Spaniard.
  • After an anonymous morning, Marc Marquez wakes up and quickly stands out from his competitors. After a few minutes of driving, he claimed first position in the table, leaving Martin and Bagnaia a tenth behind.
  • The No. 1 wastes no time responding, and laps in 1:29.280 after 10 minutes of track time.
  • The start of the session was also marked by the successive falls of Fabio Di Giannantonio and Marco Bezzecchi at turns 8 and 3. Pedro Acosta imitated them shortly later, for what was already his third fall of the weekend.
  • After a superb third place in the morning, Pol Espargaro suffered technical problems which prevented him from performing well during these tests.

Counter-performance of the KTMs

  • The picture will change very little. In the final moments, Jorge Martin (1:28.917) took control of operations, while Aleix Espargaro climbed to the forefront for the first time, claiming provisional third place.
  • Before the checkered flag, most of the Ducati riders equipped with the GP24 improved and secured their place in the top-10. Enea Bastinini narrowly escapes before falling, preventing the others from improving.
  • The final classification sees four Ducati finish in the first four positions, while Bagnaia and Morbidelli steal the show from Martin at the wire.
  • Brad Binder is the only KTM to qualify directly for Q2. The Austrian firm certainly missed something after shining in the morning.
  • In difficulty with their machines this Friday, the French will also have to go through Q1.
  • See you tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. to discover the result of the Qualifying for the 2024 MotoGP Austrian Grand Prix.
