Bagnaia salutes Marquez's courage in Misano

Bagnaia defeated by Marquez at Misano - Ducati Corse

Without the appearance of rain at Misano last Sunday, Pecco Bagnaia would probably have faced a more favourable scenario to defend his chances of victory at home. However, the raindrops greatly disrupted the race, and if they allowed the reigning world champion to get rid of the Pramac riders, until then his main rivals, they brought him another, more formidable one.

Marc Marquez took advantage of the brief appearance of rain to make up for his poor qualifying. Seventh at the time of the first disruptions, the #93 driver swept past his rivals with disconcerting ease, taking the lead and creating a comfortable margin.

The Spaniard was then able to manage to maintain his advantage and secure his second consecutive victory, a week after ending 1043 days of drought.

A victory won with authority that Bagnaia did not fail to salute, affirming that Marquez had shown remarkable temerity.

“Looking back, second place in those conditions was the best result we could have aimed for, entrusts Bagnaia with a clear head. Once the rain started to fall, I saw Franco (Morbidelli) crash. I chose to ride in a slightly safer way, while Marc (Márquez) ended up being the strongest and bravest of us all."

Bagnaia distracted at the end of the race

Despite his efforts, once the track was more or less dry, Marquez's future teammate was unable to keep up his pace, admitting defeat.

“I did everything I could to stay with him and I had a chance to take the lead a few times in the Curvone corner, He continues. However, I was never incisive enough to achieve this.

In the last laps I saw that Enea's gap had increased to more than three seconds and at that point I lost some of my concentration, also due to the fact that my physical condition was not ideal. We did our best, unlike yesterday, so I'm happy" concludes Francesco Bagnaia.

This victory allowed the Gresini driver to return to 46 points from the number 1 in the championship, while the latter also did an excellent job in the standings, reducing the gap from 23 to 7 units.
