A fall “difficult to accept” for Pedro Acosta

A real attraction of the 2024 season, Pedro Acosta had two opportunities to win at Motegi this weekend, starting from pole position. It was finally with two falls that the Spaniard concluded his Japanese journey.

While he remained hopeful after his fall on Saturday in the Sprint, it was a more dejected Pedro Acosta who appeared before the journalists after the Grand Prix this Sunday. It was at the end of the third lap that the Spaniard ended up on the ground, before being able to set off again. The damage to his KTM RC16 was however too great, and he dismounted at his pit a few laps later.

"I was just trying to prepare my exit for the pit straight", explained Acosta at the MotoGP microphone. "I wanted to come out better because I had trouble staying close to Pecco, to try to overtake him at the first corner. Finally, I made a small mistake and that's it. It's difficult to accept this new fall."

After a thunderous start to the season, Acosta has somewhat stalled in the middle of his rookie campaign. However, he has found his way back to podiums (and now pole position) in recent weeks, which has motivated him and given him confidence ahead of the next Grand Prix in two weeks in Australia. The Phillip Island track generally suits Austrian machines well, as evidenced by Brad Binder's fourth place last year.

“It’s true that we were close to a win this weekend, but we will try again in Australia. I felt good this weekend on the bike, and Phillip Island is traditionally a circuit where KTM is quite fast, we saw it with Brad last year for example. We will have to see how the tarmac is and how the tyres behave, that’s the main question mark.”
