The Barcelona Grand Prix has decided. After twenty rounds that were more than contested, Jorge Martín was crowned world champion. MotoGP, ahead of his great rival, Pecco Bagnaia, by ten units.
A title that he also believes he won against the best version of the reigning double world champion. An argument he supports by recalling the eleven victories won by the number 1 this season. Third in the championship, equipped with the 2023 Ducati, Marc Marquez was also, according to Martin, at his best.
“It’s incredible to win against the best Pecco, Jorge Martin confides on MotoGP.com this week. He won eleven races, so he was the best Pecco. Marc was also at his best. He didn't have the best bike, but he was the best Marc. I can assure you that he was on the limit. I beat them both, but I still have to improve. Because obviously I was very consistent, but I only won three times on Sunday. I crashed twice when I was leading the race, so there is always room to improve, and try to win."

"I didn't want to race anymore"
Ten days after his victory, he is called all over Spain to give interviews, and in each of them, he explains that he has difficulty achieving the feat. The first independent rider to win a title in the MotoGP era, has just made history. However, he does not intend to stop there.
“I want to be a MotoGP legend, Martin assures. I want to be remembered as a great MotoGP rider, like Jorge Lorenzo, Dani Pedrosa, Valentino Rossi or Marc Marquez. It's still hard to accept. After the race, it was an emotional moment, I was shocked. When I went to sleep, I started crying alone in my bed."
When he thinks about his victory, Jorge Martín also remembers the journey he has made since his terrible defeat in Valencia last year. The Spaniard had crashed in the main race, definitively abandoning his title chances, to witness the coronation of Pecco Bagnaia.
“I didn’t want to race anymore, admits the Pramac pilot. During the pre-season tests, I had no motivation. I was riding because I was paid and told that I would take the money and stop at the end of the season. Living in the moment helped me a lot. I also prayed and meditated a lot this season. I found the faith to dream big. Praying is talking to yourself. Trying to be a good person, giving and receiving. It's very powerful."

Jorge Martin forgets the title in 2025
In any case, it is now time for the young champion to focus on the new challenge that awaits him. In 2025, it is on the handlebars of an RS-GP that Jorge Martin will defend his interests. If he thinks he can bring a lot to Aprilia, he also knows that it will be difficult for him to double the stake, as far as the championship is concerned.
"I can bring them consistency, but now we have to see the potential of the bike, because on some circuits they are very fast, even unbeatable, and on others they suffer a lot, he adds again. It will be a difficult challenge, and thinking about winning the championship doesn't make sense."
This does not represent a disappointment. If he has to do it, the Iberian will proudly wear the number 1, knowing his chances of defending it are very low.
“It’s a big responsibility to have the number 1. I don’t know yet. There aren’t many people who have won again with the No. 1. If I can take the No. 1 for a year, there will be a lot of pictures of that in my house, and I don’t care if I don’t keep it. I have two months to think about it, so we’ll see at the Test in February.” concludes Jorge Martin.
