Almost ten years after its first race in MotoGP, Red Bull KTM celebrates another important milestone in its commitment to the world championship. The first test run of the 850cc engine, designed according to the future 2027 technical regulations, has been held.

While some were still doubting KTM's future in MotoGP a few months ago due to the group's financial difficulties, the Austrian manufacturer recently released a picture worth a thousand words. The power unit for the 2027 season has come to life at the brand's headquarters in Mattighofen. Far from being the final product, this test marks the beginning of KTM's development phase for this season.

The engineering team responsible for its design, accompanied by the group's CEO, Gottfried Neumeister, witnessed the first start-up of the engine, which is intended to be 100% compatible with non-fossil fuels, as required by the 2027 specifications.

Pit Beirer, Director of KTM Motorsports, underlines the importance of this step: “I am extremely happy that we have been able to launch the future of MotoGP from September 2025. We are perfectly on schedule to have the complete bike operational very soon. We have incorporated everything we have learned over the years in MotoGP into this engine. I am very confident that this work of art will become a benchmark in the coming seasons starting in 2027. I would like to thank the factory and the entire team behind this project. They have made a huge effort."

As a reminder, the regulations planned for 2027 impose a reduction in the maximum engine displacement. This will drop from 1000cc to 850cc to limit speeds and make racing safer. The maximum cylinder diameter will also be reduced, from 81mm to 75mm.
