Wearing the colours of the Italian Motorcycle Federation, with which Fausto Gresini had won his two world championship titles, it was written somewhere that Marc Márquez would be able to fight for the win this Sunday, despite a ninth place on the starting grid. The Spaniard benefited from a light shower at the start of the race, which trapped Jorge Martín. The Pramac rider in fact decided to go through the pit lane to jump on his bike set for the rain, a decision that was ultimately far from inspired, since he had to switch back to slick tyres a few laps later.
Marquez, one of the greatest tightrope walkers on the grid, took advantage of this to take the lead. Once the rain had passed, it seemed difficult to see the #93 staying at the front against the two-time reigning world champion Pecco Bagnaia. But Marquez gradually increased the gap to win a second race in a row. The fairy tale that began with the signing of the Iberian continues for Gresini Racing, and with only 46 points now behind Martín and a Ducati GP23 that should receive upgrades, is it totally crazy not to rule Marc Marquez out of the title race yet?
"I dedicate this victory to the entire Gresini family"
Marc Márquez (Ducati Gresini Racing n°93), winner of the San Marino GP: "For me the most important thing was to have the speed after the downpour. Of course, the rain gave me the opportunity to lead the race, but once I was in the lead I told myself that I had to find the same pace as in testing. The emotions were intense today, I was very happy when I crossed the finish line. Today, someone in the heavens, Fausto Gresini certainly, thought that it would be good to put a few drops of rain, to allow me to lead the race and then escape! I dedicate this victory to the whole Gresini family."
