Marc Marquez reluctant to accept Pirelli's arrival

One of the big news stories of the last few days in MotoGP, concerns the change of manufacturer for the discipline in 2027. The premier category of two-wheel racing has in fact made official the switch from Michelin tires to those supplied by Pirelli at this deadline.

Marc Márquez was therefore invited to express his reservations about this change. The Spanish driver is the only one on the grid to have experienced the transition from Bridgestone to Michelin in 2016.

"I think I'm the only one here who experienced the change from Bridgestone to Michelin. And I don't like change, said Marc Marquez at a press conference in Argentina. Not because I don't want to switch from Michelin to Pirelli. I'm sure Pirelli will provide us with good tires. But because it means having to adapt to a new manufacturer. You have to adapt to the tire, adapt your riding style.

Marquez highlighted the potential challenges of the change, recalling the perverse effects of the championship's previous manufacturer change. "We've experienced it in the past. Weird crashes. We didn't know why the drivers crashed. So as a driver, I don't like it. But it's the championship's decision. We have to thank Michelin, because they've developed the tires a lot. They've improved that aspect a lot."

Bagnaia and A. Marquez more neutral

Unlike Marc Márquez, the other two riders asked the question, Alex Márquez and Pecco Bagnaia, have never experienced a change of tyre manufacturer in MotoGP. They were more neutral, simply encouraging Pirelli in this new adventure.

As a reminder, Pirelli, which already supplies the Moto2 and Moto3 categories, as well as the Superbike World Championship, was favored over the French brand in an attempt to standardize this data across the different championships.

Pirelli's contract will run from 2027 to 2031, coinciding with the introduction of new technical regulations, including the return to 800cc engines. Michelin, for its part, will continue to supply MotoGP and the MotoE championship until the end of 2026, in accordance with its initial contract.
