Marco Bezzecchi, winner in Portugal: "We worked incredibly hard after the Sprint"

Marco Bezzecchi secured his second victory of the season at Portimão, but in a way, it felt like his first. Indeed, the Silverstone Grand Prix had been practically handed to him. His success was facilitated by a poor tire choice by the Ducatis and the unfortunate retirement of fabio quartararo.

Thus, since that deadline, he had never found his way back to victory. This, despite a meteoric rise in form since the summer, which had earned him the distinction of becoming Marc Márquez's main rival between the return from the summer break and the latter's injury in Indonesia.

However, on Sunday, Marco Bezzecchi didn't let anything slip by. After spending the sprint race in the shadow of Pedro Acosta and Alex Márquez, he took advantage of pole position to get the holeshot, and was never caught after that.

“I’m very happy, it’s been a fantastic race for me,” the person in question confided upon arrival, in the closed parkI felt better this morning. We really worked hard on Saturday night to find what we were missing. I was afraid of Pedro and Álex. They were very fast on Saturday. But I was also very motivated by the prospect of winning.

He pursues : “The mechanics and engineers did a really great job. I’m delighted to be back on the top step of the podium.” I had a really great time, thanks to all the fans. I'd like to dedicate this race to my best friend and his girlfriend because they just welcomed a newborn, so welcome Achilles!

This victory allows Marco Bezzecchi to virtually secure third place in the championship. He would thus equal his best career result. After the Portuguese Grand Prix, he holds a 35-point lead over Pecco Bagnaia. Therefore, Bagnaia would need to achieve a double victory in Valencia, and Bezzecchi would need to score fewer than two points, for the Aprilia rider to be denied this feat.
