Misano 2 – Race: Bastianini wins at the wire, Bagnaia at fault

Bastianini deprives Martin of victory - Michelin

  • Pecco Bagnaia negotiated his start better than the day before. Although he was surprised by Martin at the first braking point, the Italian regained the advantage in the second corner. Third, Enea Bastianini remained in contact with the two men, and the top-3 thus began to widen the gap.
  • Behind, Marc Marquez began a comeback in the peloton, and quickly found himself behind the KTMs of Pedro Acosta and Brad Binder. He would receive a slight help from the South African, who fell at turn 4 at the start of the second pass.
  • Martin was very aggressive at the start of the race, and attempted a few manoeuvres which slowed down the top three, which benefited Acosta and Marquez, who managed to catch up with Enea Bastianini.
  • While the top-5 is moving very close together, Jorge Martin finds the solution on Pecco Bagnaia at turn 8, before progressing alone in front at a frantic pace. During the fifth lap of the race, Enea Bastianini will imitate the n°89, overtaking his garage neighbour with a certain ease.
  • Pedro Acosta also caught up with the reigning world champion, but ended up falling on the 10th lap. An incident that promoted Marc Marquez to fourth position, just over a second behind number 1. Up front, the gap was smaller between the two leaders, but Bastianini chose to be patient behind Martin.

The rout of Bagnaia

  • In the second half of the race, Bagnaia woke up. The local hero found his rhythm, and set lap records. He was then four tenths faster than the leaders.
  • Having come back to within 1 second of his teammate, the Ducati rider nevertheless made a mistake that would cost him dearly in the championship as he fell. However, nothing is decided, and Bastianini is increasingly eager to overtake Martin.
  • Under pressure, the championship leader makes a small mistake, but retains the lead.

  • In the last lap of the race, Enea Bastianini tried a more than aggressive maneuver on Martin and passed him. Martin immediately responded with a gesture that made his displeasure clear, he also addressed an obscene gesture to his rival in front of the checkered flag.
  • Bastianini thus takes Ducati's hundredth victory in the premier class. Marc Marquez completes the top three after racing alone. Marco Bezzecchi concludes this MotoGP weekend at Misano with a fine fourth place.
  • fabio quartararo made a great start, and promoted himself to 8th place. He then took advantage of an excellent pace to hold Marco Bezzecchi's wheel, and the falls of the KTMs, just like that of Bagnaia, to claim provisional fifth place. The Frenchman crossed the finish line seventh.
  • Johann Zarco, for his part, snatches the point for fifteenth place, behind the official Hondas of Joan Mir and Luca Marini who complete their best weekend of the season, being eleventh and twelfth.
