Argentina – Sprint: Marquez indomitable, Zarco just off the podium

Marquez wins the Sprint in Argentina - Michelin

  • The Sprint of the Argentine Grand Prix of MotoGP is taking place under clear skies. The weather is rather mild at Termas de Rio Hondo, and all the drivers have opted to use the medium at the front and the soft at the rear, regarding the tires.
  • Starting from pole position, Marc Marquez made a perfect start, and was already half a second ahead of his brother after a few corners. A gap that widened a little further when the latter had to start fending off attacks from Pecco Bagnaia and fabio quartararo, whose starts were also impressive.
  • Having started from the front row after an impressive qualifying session, Johann Zarco, on the other hand, completely missed his start. He finished the first lap of the race in sixth position.
  • Fabio Quartararo did not keep up the pace during the second lap of the race, and was successively overtaken by Pedro Acosta and Johann Zarco.
  • While the Marquez brothers widened the gap, the drivers in 2nd to 6th place were within the same second during the first quarter of the race.
  • Before passing the halfway mark, Marc Marquez was still in the lead, but saw his brother come back in his wake and start to put him under pressure.

Johann Zarco maintains his podium hopes

  • While the Gresini driver remains two tenths behind the championship leader, Johann Zarco is the only rider to lap the same times. Promoted to fourth position with five laps to go, the Frenchman is just over a second behind Bagnaia, and therefore away from a podium place.
  • At the end of the race, Marc Marquez raised his game, relegating Alex Marquez to more than half a second. He then headed for a second consecutive Sprint victory, which no one would take away from him. The younger Marquez finished second, ahead of Pecco Bagnaia. The scenario from the Thailand Grand Prix seemed to be repeating itself.
  • Johann Zarco is defending his interests, and is holding on to an excellent fourth place. Honda's best MotoGP Sprint result since Marc Marquez, at the 2023 Valencia Grand Prix. With a better start this Sunday, everything suggests that Johann Zarco can chase a podium finish, something he has been chasing since the same date.
  • Fabio Quartararo fell down the order after his excellent start, and finished the Sprint just outside the points, behind Pedro Acosta and Joan Mir.
  • Brad Binder was forced to retire from the race prematurely after a collision with Franco Morbidelli. Later, Fermin Aldeguer and Miguel Oliveira crashed after touching, ending their hopes of a good finish. The incident will be investigated later this evening in Argentina.
