Assen – EL1: Bagnaia sets the tone, Quartararo in the game

Fastest Bagnaia in Assen - Michelin

Le MotoGP is back in Assen after three weeks of absence. The eighth round of the world championship is also the penultimate of this first part of the season, and will therefore be crucial for the championship leaders who wish to go on vacation with the confidence to lead the operations. The favorite for this event is Francesco Bagnaia. the Italian found the path to victory during the last two meetings to date, but also during the last two Assen GPs.

EL1:

  • The first part of the session was marked by a surprising image. That of Aleix Espargaro being pushed to his box due to mechanical problems.
  • On the track, however, things went relatively well and no falls were reported in the first moments. On the timing side, Marc Marquez sets his mark in 1:32.974, while Jorge Martin is right on his heels.
  • Lap times are changing quickly, and several drivers are claiming the lead in the table. Like Raul Fernandez, Alex Marquez, and Pecco Bagnaia.

  • At the end of the session, the drivers got closer to the reference time established by Marco Bezzecchi in FP1 last year (1:32.246). None of the twenty-two drivers on the grid, however, managed to do better.
  • In front of the checkered flag, Fabio Di Giannantonio demonstrated that the GP23s have potential in Assen, and set the best time in 1:32.314. However, his time was canceled. Which allows Bagnaia to put himself in the lead.
  • While Marc Marquez, equipped with the same machine as the VR46 driver, therefore finished second. Francesco Bagnaia is the only Ducati rider equipped with the latest version of the Desmosedici to place in the top-9.

  • Yamaha's new engine seems to succeed in fabio quartararo which offers itself a good fourth place. It will remain for the Frenchman to confirm this afternoon during testing.
  • You will also have to watch the Aprilias. Each of Raul Fernandez, Maverick Viñales and Aleix Espargaro – despite problems at the start of the session – managed to place their RS-GP without the top-6.
  • The Hondas are not there, and are once again claiming the end of the table. Among them, Johann Zarco ranks 21st, ahead of Luca Marini and Lorenzo Savadori.
