Still recovering from the multiple injuries he suffered during the pre-season, Jorge Martín, the reigning world champion of MotoGP, made a surprise video appearance at the press conference preceding the Argentine Grand Prix.
Invited to speak from his carOn the other side of the globe, the Spaniard began by sharing an update on his health and his plans for a comeback. On this front, the news isn't exactly good. “Hello everyone, good to finally join you here for the press conference. Hello to Marc, Pecco, and Alex. This isn't really my time. I'm trying to recover as quickly as I can, but it's not easy. I won't be there in Austin. I would like to be there, but I won't be racing.”
He thus formalizes his absence for the third round of the season, which will take place on the last weekend of March. As for the fourth meeting of the year, which will take place in mid-April in Qatar, the number 1 does not seem optimistic either, although a glimmer of hope remains.
"I don't know if I'll be there in Qatar either, He continues. It's still too early to say. I'd like to take part in some tests before returning to racing, because I'm not feeling very well. I know Massimo is also working on that, so we'll try to make that possible."

The drivers' reactions to Jorge Martín's withdrawal
The drivers present at the press conference were then invited to express their support for Martín. Marc Márquez, for his part, welcomed Martín's decision not to rush his return.
"I already messaged him to tell him it was a smart decision, adds Martin's compatriot. Austin is a physically demanding circuit. Stay strong, Jorge, we're waiting for you on the track."
Pecco Bagnaia also encouraged his rival: “[I would] just say, 'Forza!' We need the No. 1 on track. The battles with Jorge are always exciting, and I'm looking forward to seeing him back on track soon, but not too soon, because he has to take his time.”
Despite his physical absence, Jorge Martín remains involved as best he can in this championship, which he competes in the colours of the official Aprilia team.
"It's hard to watch the races from home, I'm very close, and that will be the case again this weekend. I support Aprilia, and I hope they can improve further, to be closer to that podium. Obviously it's boring without me on the track. I hope the guys can put on a show this weekend." concludes Jorge Martin.
